THE PURGE Review
THE PURGE is more of a slasher suspense thriller, but not as gory as the standard slasher movies. Much of the movie's strength centers on the thrilling suspense, build-up of things to come, and how the story and the events in the movie unfold. The twist and the turns that are sure to generate an audience reaction, whether their reactions may hate the movie or admire it. [read the rest of the review, click HERE]

X-Men Viral Photos and Video Reveal More Sentinels
The viral marketing for the highly anticipated X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST has begun with teasing Trask Industries photos, posters, and ads. In the X-Men universe, TRASK INDUSTRIES, which is founded by Bolivar Trask, developed the robot units known as the Sentinels which really are anti-mutant robots. These photos, which were tweeted by the film's producer-director Bryan Singer, reveals "history photos" of Sentinels being present during important and historic government events, and other photos depict company ads for Sentinels in the movie's universe. The viral video, on the other hand, is a commercial for Trask Industries (another slightly similar ad can be seen at the post-credits scene in the movie THE WOLVERINE. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is set for a May 23, 2014 release.

Jamie Foxx Wants to be Spawn
Among the superheroes created in the 1990s, SPAWN is probably the one that embodies and stands as the posterboy for 90's comics; irreverent, hardcore, mysterious, and can sometimes be seen armed with really big guns. It was adapted into an immensely disappointing movie in the late 90s. Ever since that time, its creator Todd McFarlane has been working hard to redeem his creation and get a serious, hard-R-rating SPAWN movie. It looks like his chances of getting it made will be faring well this time, because Jamie Foxx has publicly expressed his wishes to take on the role of Spawn, if a new movie is to be made. Jamie Foxx has been aggressively pursuing the reboot. Will this be the push needed to get an R-Rated Spawn into theaters? [read the full article after the jump]

ROCKY Universe Continues With CREED
The Rocky franchise will continue on into its seventh film, but it seems that Rocky himself will not be the one throwing the punches. Deadline reports that this new Rocky picture, to be titled CREED, will avoid the insanity of putting a 67-year-old Sylvester Stallone back in the ring, and revolve around the grandson of Apollo Creed, Carl Weathers’ character from the original film. As for Rocky himself, Stallone will still return, although now solely as a mentor to the younger Creed. [full article after the jump]

The Butterfly Effect manifests in a Remake
The Butterfly Effect will be getting a remake from FilmEngine and New Line-based Benderspink, with original writer-director Eric Bress on board to pen the new script. A.J. Dix, Anthony Rhulen, Chris Bender and JC Spink will produce, as they did on the original, along with Film Engine president Navid McIllhargey. No director is yet attached.
The original sci-fi thriller, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, was a solid performer for New Line with a worldwide box office of $96 million on a budget of $13 million along with a pair of direct-to-DVD sequels. Bress and J. Mackeye Gruber co-directed and co-wrote the original. Kutcher portrayed a character who had the ability to travel back in time and change the present by changing what he had done in his past — but found that changing several childhood traumas created unintended consequences.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Wants to Fight With The Avengers Too
In the world of superhero movies, as is in the case of the Marvel Studio movies, characters and superheroes get to crossover in each other's movie. Tony Stark can make an appearance in a Hulk movie, Nick Fury can have a cameo in Captain America, and those characters can all meet up in The Avengers. Hugh Jackman has recently come out in an interview expressing his wishes that he and his character Wolverine could fight alongside, not only with the X-Men, but with the Avengers as well. The Wolverine review
THE WOLVERINE seeks to revitalize the comic book character Wolverine with a treatment designed to correct the wrongs of the previous movie, one that will render it "done right this time" And yes, it does accomplish that job.
Aside from the action, The Wolverine is more character-driven. People who expect the same kind of "fantastic fun" in other superhero movies may find the movie dragging, or even mediocre. Especially in the first half of the movie wherein which I loved the drama and the complex evolution of fates, following the journey of one man who is lost and feeling cursed by the pain of the past, and has to live with it (eternally).

Sacha Baron Cohen quits Freddie Mercury movie
Ever since we saw him in his role for his movie BORAT, many people have been agreeing that Sacha Baron Cohen has an uncanny likeness with the legendary singer and vocalist of Queen; Freddie Mercury. And many agreed that if ever there be a biopic about Mercury, Cohen would be perfect for the role. In 2010, Queen guitarist Brian May did confirm that a Freddie Mercury biopic will be filmed, and Cohen is set to portray the Queen vocalist. But now, it has been announced that Sacha Baron Cohen won’t be playing Freddie Mercury after all.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will Not be like the Comics Storyline; Whedon provides details for Avengers 2
This is a case of geeks trying to expect the movies to absolutely copy the comics. Well, that isn't going to happen with The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Age of Ultron may have the same title with the comicbook storyline, but it will, most definitely, create its own storyline with what has already been established in the other movies. And THAT has been confirmed by Joss Whedon himself. [Hit the jump for the detailed report]
WARCRAFT begins filming 2014
This weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con, particularly at Hall H, the audience got an unexpected trailer. In an open, alien-looking desert, a human warrior seemingly stands alone. He drinks the last water from a skein, and drops it on the ground. He draws a magnificent sword, and steps forward to examine the bones of a fallen soldier. He picks up a fancy-looking shield. He begins circling around, facing off an unseen enemy. The camera pulls back and reveals…an orc wielding a giant battle axe. The two continue to circle each other. Then they charge forward, screaming at each other, and the final shot is the orc leaping in the air, bringing down the axe, and we cut to black. Then the title comes up: WARCRAFT. The crowd goes wild. This is the kind of fun surprise that Comic-Con can provide, and Legendary in particular has become so adept at providing. [full article after the jump]

DC/WB Plans Superman-Batman Movie for 2015 and The Flash for 2016
It's no secret that DC/Warner Bros. has been desperately trying hard to catch up, cash in on the trend, and follow on the formula of Marvel's ultra-successful Avengers movie phenomenon. A Justice League movie has been planned and repetitiously failed to launch (what with the failure of Green Lantern and the unaired Wonder Woman TV series). Now, with the success of MAN OF STEEL, DC/Warner strikes while the iron is hot by following it up with a sequel that is a SUPERMAN-BATMAN movie to be released by 2015, and "tentatively" to be followed by a FLASH movie on 2016. And possibly a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie by 2017. [read more after the jump]

Sharon Cuneta is looking for a Screenplay
Inquirer reports that Megastar Sharon Cuneta is inviting independent filmmakers to submit screenplays for an indie movie. She was not looking for a vanity project, she clarified, but merely asking filmmakers, “What type of movie do you see me in?” From the tone of the report, it seems that Sharon is trying to tap the indie population, or at least those probably not connected with the mainstream film companies. It should be remembered that Sharon has indeed supported the indie scene in many instances, and I wouldn't be surprised if she cracked at pushing the indie scene again into the limelight.

Gina Carano & Rob Liefeld working on bringing AVENGELYNE to the Big Screen
Gina Carano and comic book artist-writer Rob Liefeld are working together to develop a movie adaptation of Liefeld's comicbook creation AVENGELYNE with Carano as the title character.
Published in 1995 under Image Comics, AVENGELYNE is about an angel (Avengelyne) who is the most feared warrior in Heaven's Army. But she was banished from Heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for humans. Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, other than her great strength and her blood, which, once extracted from her body, could be used as a weapon or a miracle once empowered by quoting verses from the Bible. Despite her new limitations, Avengelyne continues to battle the demons that she can find while on Earth. [full article after the jump]

MAN OF TAI CHI Review
This film has not yet been released in the US, so its a treat to see this movie already. MAN OF TAI CHI has a tone of simplicity; it does not aspire or have pretensions to achieve anything else except for just being a straight-to-the-point martial arts movie. And it does accomplish its task with flying colors. But despite its simplicity, the evidence of achieving an impressively well-directed movie is clear; the story of its main character is weaved beautifully, following him in his life from being a sort of an underdog in his menial job, from being a simple humble man, and into his journey into darkness, his innocence gradually being corrupted. Dean Koontz novel ODD THOMAS is an unreleased movie now shown in the Philippines
ODD THOMAS is a movie that nobody seems to have heard of (not unless you are familiar with the novel from which it is based upon), simply because there is no marketing for this movie, and it pretty much feels non-existent because the United States release date for the film was delayed indefinitely. But now it has found its way in Philippine theaters, showing this week nationwide
ODD THOMAS is a movie based on the novel of the same name by Dean Koontz, about a clairvoyant short-order cook working in a desert town who has the ability to see dead people and proactively acts upon them by being at the aid of the police, in solving crimes. He, then encounters a potentially dangerous and very mysterious man who intends to cause a massacre. [full article after the jump]

Is Fox planning an X-Force Movie?
20th Century Fox, in appraising the superhero movie landscape, may be embracing the concept that if other studios are going to go one superhero per movie in order to build a team, Fox has the power to introduce entire teams right off the bat. The X-Men movies have continued to pile in more and more mutants, and now that it’s bursting at the seams with Bryan Singer‘s upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, the studio may be close to moving into the secondary teams. One such team is X-FORCE, (originally) a team of younger, aggressive, and rebellious mutant kids who banded themselves as a paramilitary mutant team whose aspirations may be similar to the X-Men, but their means to achieving an end are completely different. If Fox plans to take on X-Force, the announcement may come at their Comic-Con panel this July. [full article after the jump]

The Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch Appearances in Avengers 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past
The Comicbook characters Pietro Maximoff a.k.a. Quicksilver, and Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Comics Universe are members of the superhero team The Avengers. Now, the movie Avengers 2 is currently in active production (what with the start of Marvel's Phase 2 movies, beginning with Iron Man 3) and has included both superhero characters to make an appearance in that sequel. It just so happened that the upcoming movie X-Men: Days of Future Past will also have both characters make an appearance in that movie. Because aside from being Avengers, both comicbook characters are also mutants, and are the children of Magneto, one of the most important characters of the X-Men Universe.
