While we might be thinking that Bruce Willis' next big action film project might be the upcoming prequel/sequel to "Die Hard", it looks like he is also setting his sights to revive the gritty action classic "Death Wish".

Michael B. Jordan takes on The Thomas Crown Affair
Fast-rising actor Michael B. Jordan (not to be confused with the basketball legend, okay?) has proven time and again just how talented he is, especially with the recent success of "Creed" and his previous roles in films such as "Fruitvale Station" and "Chronicle" (just dont count his involvement in last year's awful "Fantastic Four"). MGM, the studio that produced CREED, is very pleased with the actor that they've decided to attach him to one of their upcoming films, "The Thomas Crown Affair" which is the second remake of the 1968 classic of the same title, which starred Steve McQueen. This film was also remade by Die Hard and Predator director John McTiernan back in 1999, and it starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. The result was decent, but not quite remarkable. The premise, however, is simple and timeless, and so long as the writing, directing, and acting talent is in place, there's no reason why this film shouldn't be something quite appealing. Reports indicate that the deal has been in the works for some time now, as Barrett has already started writing the script and director Wingard has begun meeting with actors.

Korean Revenge Movie "I Saw The Devil" Set for an English-Language Remake
Adi Shankar and Spencer Silna’s 1984 Private Defense Contractors has acquired English language remake rights to 2010 South Korean Kim Jee Woon (The Good, The Bad, The Weirdand A Tale of Two Sisters) helmed revenge thriller I SAW THE DEVIL, which is widely regarded as the most violent and elaborate revenge story ever told onscreen. Rather than just finding the criminal, killing him, and ending the story, I SAW THE DEVIL asks the question “what if the hero becomes the criminal?” Focusing on the characters rather than the mystery of finding the criminal, I SAW THE DEVIL details the journey of vengeance beyond all realms of sanity. The realistic and brutal violence is one of the most explicit displays of violence ever seen on film. [hit the jump to continue]

Universal Plans to Remake ON THE JOB
As many of us already know, the Filipino film "On The Job" made such an impact internationally that it attracted US and French distributors. Now, Variety reports that Universal Pictures has optioned the rights to the movie with Scott Stuber on board to produce, and Baltasar Kormakur, director of Contraband and 2 Guns, on board to write and direct the remake. Local media has been speculating the possibility of Mark Wahlberg and Tom Cruise playing the roles in the remake, as based on an interview of Gerald Anderson with ABS CBN News. Canadian critic Chris Bumbray also made news early this month when he nominated Bryan Cranston (star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad) to star as the remake's lead. All these are mere casting buzz for now, since no actors have been officially cast as of yet. [hit the jump to continue]

Neil Marshall to helm TROLL HUNTER Remake; and another Game of Thrones episode
The Norwegian film "Troll Hunter" which was directed by André Øvredal, was one of the most applauded foreign films to come out in 2010, and was released in the US with strong positive reception. Now, this monster movie is up for a remake with director Neil Marshall at the helm to direct it. Production is looking to get underway in early 2014 while there’s still snow on the ground, which means that things are going to move very quickly on the project. The original pic centered on a group of students investigating mysterious bear killings who come across a troll hunter and, subsequently, a giant troll. No release date has been marked as of yet. According to Bleeding Cool, an American remake has been in the works with Sony for a while now with the original’s director, Gareth Evans, attached as an executive producer. And this week, we learned that Jon and Erich Hoeber (both writers of Battleship and Red 2, two of Hollywood's most childishly awful movies), are in the early stages of rewriting the script.

The Butterfly Effect manifests in a Remake
The Butterfly Effect will be getting a remake from FilmEngine and New Line-based Benderspink, with original writer-director Eric Bress on board to pen the new script. A.J. Dix, Anthony Rhulen, Chris Bender and JC Spink will produce, as they did on the original, along with Film Engine president Navid McIllhargey. No director is yet attached.
The original sci-fi thriller, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, was a solid performer for New Line with a worldwide box office of $96 million on a budget of $13 million along with a pair of direct-to-DVD sequels. Bress and J. Mackeye Gruber co-directed and co-wrote the original. Kutcher portrayed a character who had the ability to travel back in time and change the present by changing what he had done in his past — but found that changing several childhood traumas created unintended consequences.

Gremlins May Return in Reboot/Remake
Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and David Katzenberg (The Hard Times of RJ Berger) have reportedly signed on to produce a remake/reboot of GREMLINS. According to Collider, Warner Bros. is “officially moving ahead”, but production likely remains at a very early stage since Steven Spielberg, who executive produced the original through his Amblin Entertainment, still has to give the green light.
No director or writer is attached, although I assume it’s possible that Grahame-Smith could pen the flick. Grahame-Smith recently completed a draft for a sequel to Beetlejuice, so he’s experienced with trying to resurrect 80s movies that should best be left alone.

Remake for Ice Station Zebra being Developed; Christopher McQuarrie may Write and Direct
Warner Bros. is remaking the Cold War thriller Ice Station Zebra and has tapped Christopher McQuarrie to write and direct it.
Made in 1968 by MGM, Zebra was an adaptation of an Alistair McLean novel that centered on an American Naval submarine team that races the Russians to retrieve sensitive photographic material in the Arctic. Torpedo blasts, saboteurs, double-crosses and double-agent civilian scientists caught in the cross-fire are part of the ensuing action. The movie starred Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, Patrick McGoohan and Jim Brown and proved to be a major hit at the time.
McQuarrie is well-steeped in the world of shady characters having won an Oscar for penning The Usual Suspects and written thrillers like the Tom Cruise-starring Valkyrie and Jack Reacher.
The deal may impact the development of Paramount's Mission: Impossible 5, which McQuarrie is rumored to be the favorite to direct. Cruise is back to star in the action tentpole but there is no clear timetable for either movie project.
