Emily Blunt eyed to be Mary Poppins

Last September, we reported that Disney is reviving Mary Poppins [see the story HERE]. Now, Variety reports that actress Emily Blunt is in negotiations to star in Disney's sequel to "Mary Poppins". John DeLuca and Marc Platt will serve as producers on the film with Rob Marshall directing. The new film will take place 20 years after the original 1964 film, "Mary Poppins", which starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. The story follows a nanny who comes to work for a bankers unhappy family in pre-World War I England. Disney has found success adapting a number of classic animated films such as "Alice In Wonderland" and "Cinderella". The studio just completed production on a live-action "Beauty and the Beast" film starring Emma Watson set for release next year and is also developing a 'Cruella Deville' origin film starring Emma Stone. Blunt is currently filming 20th Century Fox's "Girl on a Train" film adaptation and has Universal Pictures' Snow White-prequel, "The Huntsman: Winter's War" starring Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, and Jessica Chastain set for release this summer.

Now, it seems that he is assigned to pen something that fits his less impressive image; he will be penning the screenplay for a live-action "Dumbo" movie. Live-Action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Movie Being Developed; Bill Condon as Director

This looks like a project that has been waiting for a go-signal, and now that Maleficent is a big success, Disney is moving on to work on another fairy tale re-imagining, with a live-action Beauty and the Beast movie. Bill Condon (director of "Gods and Monsters", "Chicago", "Dreamgirls", and "Twilight: Breaking Dawn 1 & 2") will helm the flick. Few details are available on the tone or plot of the script at the moment, or whether or not the film will even feature musical numbers. Condon may have directed the 2 last Twilight movies, but his reputation cannot be easily underestimated just like that, because his other works, like "Gods and Monsters" and "Dreamgirls" are high caliber, Academy Award movies. Condon has that potential to mix a really great cinematic experience and the kind of romance that will get the teenagers running to the theaters. The film is in development stage; no production start or release date has been set as of yet.

Disney plans to make three more Star Wars spin-off movies

Once the Star Wars property fell into the hands of Disney, we can be sure to assume that Disney would be driving this big potential franchise machine into maximum capacity. They suddenly have this flood of ideas for the Star Wars property. Aside from the upcoming Star Wars: Episode 7, there's the planned TV series, one of them is the animated TV series Star Wars Rebels which is already set to be launched. But Disney has revealed that they are planning full-length spin-off movies for Star Wars as well, expanding the Star Wars universe into its literal definition. [hit the jump to continue]

Will there be a FROZEN 2?

There's no denying the pop phenomenon the Walt Disney animated movie FROZEN has created. It’s currently the top selling Blu-ray and soundtrack on Amazon. It's also recently been re-released in some theaters. Plus, there's that popular song that makes the movie itself a pop sensation. If we consider the commercial behavior of Hollywood nowadays of "striking the iron while it's hot" ...it's a sure thing that making a sequel is obviously on Disney's calendar. But that doesn’t mean that it's happening tomorrow.  Disney has no reason to rush when the original is still riding high. In an interview with Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn, he said that one of the other reasons why is that Disney is, instead, primarily focusing on the Frozen musical.  Disney loves bringing their animated features to the stage, and a Frozen stage musical is a license to print money. Disney now has Rights to Indiana Jones

Indy 5 looks like it's indeed going to get made. The legal entanglement that was the Indiana Jones franchise has now been untangled.  When Disney purchased Lucasfilm, there was a question of how future Indiana Jones films would proceed since Paramount released the first four movies.  Today, Disney announced that it has reached an arrangement with Paramount regarding the franchise.  Under the new deal, Disney has acquired distribution and marketing rights to all future Indiana Jones films along with its current ownership of the rights that it secured when it purchased Lucasfilm.  [Hit the jump to continue]

Disney's INTO THE WOODS begins production

Disney’s highly anticipated film adaptation of INTO THE WOODS, which is based on a popular Tony-winning original musical, has began last week. It features an award-winning production team and all-star ensemble cast. Rob Marshall, the talented filmmaker behind the Academy Award-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” helms the film. The original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics—including an all-new song for the big-screen adaptation is produced by Marshall, John DeLuca, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall. 'Dead Men Tell No Tales' is the title of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie

The full title for the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie will be PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES. This Pirates sequel is set to open on July 10, 2015. It will be directed by the directing duo of Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, who are best known for their work in the Norwegian historical drama film Kon-Tiki, which was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards. Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 3) wrote the screenplay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Disney, and Johnny Depp have all signed on for the sequel. Miramax & Disney reunite to develop ARTEMIS FOWL

The young adult fantasy book series ARTEMIS FOWL is about the adventures of a 12-year-old criminal mastermind who kidnaps a fairy in order to harness its magic to save his family. This book series currently spans eight novels. Miramax has since been trying to develop it into a film ever since the company has acquired rights for the book back in 2001. Now, Miramax has reunited with Disney to bring ARTEMIS FOWL to the big screen, hoping it could spawn a new fantasy movie franchise the way Harry Potter did.

Two Separate Live-Action Adaptations for THE JUNGLE BOOK Being Made

Rudyard Kipling's THE JUNGLE BOOK is about to get, not just one... but two live-action film adaptations. One by Disney and another by Warner Brothers.

The Jungle Book is Rudyard Kipling’s classic novel (and/or series of novels) about an orphaned Indian boy named Mowgli, who is raised by animals that protect him from a ferocious tiger who rules the jungle. Disney to release one Star Wars movie every year, beginning 2015

In a recent convention in Las Vegas, USA, Disney made the bold announcement that it is planning on releasing a new Star Wars film into theaters every summer starting with 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII.  The studio will alternate every other year with an “Episode” film and a standalone film, and based on previous rumors there certainly won’t be a lack of characters for them to mine.
