A Young Merlin Movie is being developed by Warner Bros.

perhaps a more teeny version of this
MERLIN is one popular fictional character which is most interesting and most attractive to studios that are looking for the next fantasy franchise to cash in, as much as the Harry Potter series did. A Young Merlin movie is now being developed into a movie (and possibly a movie series). Warner Bros.has tapped Dave Hill (Game of Thrones) and David Farr (Hanna) to script a new take on the original wizard, Merlin. [continue after the jump]

It is possible that this project might be the adaptation of author T. A. Barron’s young adult fantasy book series "The Lost Years of Merlin" which serves as something of an origin story for the character. Warner Bros. has had an adaptation option on this book as far back as 2011. But there is no confirmation if this movie will be adapting the book. Since the original character himself Merlin is public dominion, it is also possible that Hill and Farr’s screenplay will be original and wont be an adaptation of Barron's novel.

This planned movie project will follow Merlin’s journey from being a boy washed on the shores of Wales with no memory and no home, to him becoming a young man learning to use his powers and ultimately defender of the natural world and eventual mentor to King Arthur.

Hill and Farr seem like a perfect blend in order to make a Young Merlin movie; Dave Hill was an assistant to Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and later became one of the staff writers. David Farr's work on the movie Hanna was impressive; its a screenplay filled with deep psychological thrill with a ultra-talented and immensely lethal little girl as its central protagonist. Perhaps Farr's experience in Hanna will bridge Hill's style which can equally be dark, complicated, and mature.
