Live-Action Dumbo Movie being developed; Ehren Kruger to Pen Screenplay

Ehren Kruger may not be a bright name among critics circles for penning such childishly awful screenplays for such movies as the last three of the four Michael Bay Transformers movies, Brothers Grimm, and Reindeer Games. Now, it seems that he is assigned to pen something that fits his less impressive image; he will be penning the screenplay for a live-action "Dumbo" movie. Oblivion producer Justin Springer will co-produce alongside Kruger. [hit the jump to continue]
The original 1941 "Dumbo" was the fourth animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. It is based upon the storyline written by Helen Aberson and illustrated by Harold Pearl for the prototype of a novelty toy ("Roll-a-Book"). The main character is Jumbo Jr., a semi-anthropomorphic elephant who is cruelly nicknamed "Dumbo". He is ridiculed for his big ears, but in fact he is capable of flying by using his ears as wings. Throughout most of the film, his only true friend, aside from his mother, is the mouse, Timothy – a relationship parodying the stereotypical animosity between mice and elephants.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the new take involves the adaptation of original movie adding a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s story.”
