Now on its third year, the New Filipino Cinema film festival in San Francisco, California is set to launch this month, and yet again, showcase the Philippines' finest films, specifically, of the new age. The Festival will be from June 11, 2014 to June 15, 2014, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California, USA. [hit the jump to continue]
Qouting from the festival's website; What has been assembled in this program is an eclectic mix of films, representing as wide a view of the current landscape as possible. It is difficult to capture the essence of Filipino cinema in a single program; the country is simply too strange and varied to really be summed up. But here we present films from first-time filmmakers, veterans of the mainstream, international festival darlings, local iconoclasts, masters, and even one non-Filipino. Hopefully, a much more representative sample of the current madness in the country than one would likely get from any other venue.
The films to be screened are: "How to Disappear Completely" by Raya Martin, "Jungle Love" by Sherad Anthony Sanchez, "Debosyon" by Alvin Yapan, "Sana Dati" by Jerrold Tarog, "Iskalawags" by Keith Deligero, "Woman of the Ruins' by Keith Sicat, "Ekstra (The Bit Player)" by Jeffrey Jeturian, "Metro Manila" by Sean Ellis, "Oro, Plata, Mata"(The Restored Version) by Peque Gallaga, "Transit" by Hannah Espia, "Ang Huling Cha-Cha Ni Anita (Anita’s Last Cha-Cha)" by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo, "Walay Tumoy Na Punterya (No End in Sight)" by Cierlito E. Tabay, "Pascalina" by Pam Miras, "Rigodon" by Erik Matti, and "Thy Womb" by Brillante Mendoza. It will also feature short films, namely"Taya" by Adi Bontuyan, "Victor" by Jarell M. Serencio, "How to Raise a Smart and Happy Child from Age Zero to Five" by Khavn De La Cruz, "RB (Rugby Boys)" by Manny Montelibano, "Curiosity Killed the Cat (Si El Curiosidad Mata Con El Gato)" by Aedrian Araojo, "Ramil Might Be Outside (‘Timora Talli Apuera Si Ramil)" by Roberto Oquias, Jr., "Kapawa: Mystery of Light" by Noel de Leon, "The End of the Beginning (Sa Wakas)" by Nica Santiago.
New Filipino Cinema is the most comprehensive portrait of contemporary film from the Philippines held anywhere in the world.
