Doctor Strange picks Scott Derrickson as director; Now the big question is Who will play Doctor Strange?

It's been confirmed that "Doctor Strange" will be among the movies that will comprise Marvel Production's Phase 3. Scott Derrickson (director of "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", "Sinister", and the upcoming "Deliver Us From Evil") has already confirmed that he will direct this upcoming Marvel project. Now, speculations run amuck as to who will portray Doctor Strange. The biggest contenders, according to several sources, are; Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jared Leto. We here on Syowing have our own little choices [hit the jump to continue]

Scott Derrickson may be one heck of a brilliant choice to direct Doctor Strange. But who would be that brilliant choice to portray the Marvel title character? Several sources indicate that the frontrunners are Tom Hardy (who is the man behind the mask as Bane in Dark Knight Rises) and Benedict Cumberbatch (who played Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness). For the moment, that's still considered a mere rumor. Both actors are incredibly busy with their own upcoming movies. Hardy’s upcoming pictures include Michaël R. Roskam’s crime-thriller "The Drop", Daniel Espinosa’s "Child 44", the musical "London Road", plus George Miller’s "Mad Max: Fury Road".  He’s also in pre-production on Brian Helgeland’s thriller "Legend", and is rumored to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s "The Revenant".  Cumberbatch, meanwhile, next appears in the Alan Turing biopic "The Imitation Game", and voices roles in "The Penguins of Madagascar", "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies", and "Magik".  He just started filming on Scott Cooper’s "Black Mass" and is next expected to move on to Gary Oldman’s "Flying Horse". Jared Leto's also came out earlier on the rumor mill.

Of the three, I think Leto is the better choice, even though we think he looks too short for the role. Hardy and Cumberbatch are just too big and overexposed now. Hardy is literally too bulky, and Cumberbatch is too caucasian. Although it would not be the usual norm (although not uncommon) for a big Hollywood project like this to pick an actor with not much of a stellar image, we'd rather have Doctor Strange be played by somebody like Aiden Gillen or Pedro Pascal (both from Game of Thrones), or if there really is a need to pick somebody stellar, get Joseph Fiennes. Our hopes and wishes are a longshot, but hey, in our eyes; our three picks seem more-than-fit to play the role.
