Star Wars: Episode 7 Cast Announced

After months of waiting for reliable Star Wars Episode 7 news and looking past JJ Abrams' brand of deceitful (in a somewhat positive manner) style of publicity and keeping secrets and surprises, finally get a fresh news story. The Star Wars Episode 7 main cast has been announced. [hit the jump to continue]

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (UK TV series Silent Witness, Youngsters, and Mr. Selfridge), Adam Driver (Frances Ha, Inside Llewyn Davis), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, The Bourne Legacy, Sucker Punch), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Rise of the Planet of the Ape, King Kong), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), and Max Von Sydow (The Exorcist, The Seventh Seal), will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

The new cast looks awesome and personally, I am all praises that this cast seems to be the kind that had been handpicked because of their acting potentials. It reminds us of how the first Star Wars movie (1977) was cast; it had a cast who were relatively unknown actors at the time. After all, you dont need flashy big names for a Star Wars movie; Star Wars sells itself. Because of this, one can have the freedom of choosing stars who have real potential. Young actors like John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac have come out of small movies underrated by mainstream, but praised by critics. Daisy Ridley is even only known in appearances in some UK TV series. On the other hand, you also have master thespians like Max Von Sydow best known for iconic roles in The Exorcist (he's the title character) and also known to play Ming the Merciless in the 1980 Flash Gordon. You also have master thespian Andy Serkis who is best known as the man behind Gollum, and the man behind the ape Caesar from The Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This is a pretty solid cast that promises Star Wars: Episode 7 to have that redeeming reputation this franchise badly needs.
