Indiana Jones to get the "James Bond treatment"

In case you were not aware of it, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" was a failure; it had not met the expectations in box office results and it was bombarded by negative reaction from both critics and fans. The ugly reputation of the movie made it difficult for the franchise to move along as they (its producers) had to tread lightly since they have become burdened with the responsibility of how to effectively redeem the Indiana Jones franchise. Now, it seems that they are finally opting to give the the Indiana Jones series (what is referred to as ) the "James Bond"approach by casting a new actor for the titular role; something they should have done in the first place. And actor Bradley Cooper is being eyed to be the next Indiana Jones.

It is being acknowledged that the current state of Hollywood blockbusters is not one where an actor comes to define a role, but rather where the character on screen determines the box office, and, if successful, the direction of the franchise.  The 007 films have been doing it for a while and it’s worked pretty well for them.  It's pretty clear that people watch the 007 movies, not because they wanna watch Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig; but because they wanna see James Bond. [hit the jump to continue]

Actor Harrison Ford is now in his 70s and it's pretty obvious that he will not be able to embody who and what Indiana Jones is. Indiana Jones 5 was not to be expected for two to three years, which puts Ford between 74 and 76 years old, depending on when it gets rolling.  Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn was interviewed a couple of months back and confirmed that they didn’t have a story yet. So it might take some time before and Indy project will start rolling; meanwhile, Ford is not getting any younger. Disney and Lucasfilm might be considering a James Bond approach to the franchise.  And Bradley Cooper is the actor they have in mind for the whip-cracking adventurer.

In Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, there was a tease scene wherein the hat might be turned over to the younger character; Indiana Jone's son in the movie. But that idea did not bode well with audiences and fans; not only was it a repulsive idea for him to replace Ford, but also, Shia LaBeouf “ isn’t famous anymore” is what we assume producers take into consideration.

Anyway, Bradley Cooper would be a near-perfect choice to play the role. We sure do hope that the Indiana Jones property will indeed pick itself up and regain its reputation. What do YOU think? Is Bradley Cooper the right choice for the role? Who should be the next Indiana Jones? Hit the Comments section & Share!
