Universal is moving forward with its new Conan the Barbarian movie which will bring back Arnold Schwarzenegger to the title role which gave birth to his superstardom. According to the Deadline website, Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) has been tapped to pen the script for The Legend of Conan. Expected to be a continuation of the 1980's continuity of Conan films (and disregarding the awful 2011 reboot) and will follow Conan as the titular king, focusing on his efforts to retain his throne as his reign comes to a close. [hit the jump to continue]
Based on the series of pulp novels by Robert E. Howard, Conan the Barbarian was made into a 1982 movie directed by John Milius and made Schwarzenegger a household name. The movie was followed by the 1984 Conan the Destroyer, directed by Richard Fleischer, which was much sillier in tone, and in 2011, a reboot was made with Marcus Nispel directing and Jason Momoa as the title character. That reboot was not such a success, as it has proved to be extremely unimpressive. The Legend of Conan will hope to regain the glory and the prestige it deserves, and perhaps the kind of boost Schwarzenegger wishes to reinvigorate his career as well.
