The Finding of the Real-life Filipina Maid from which the film ILO ILO was Based Upon

The Singaporean movie entitled "ILO ILO" which has won the coveted Camera d’Or award for best feature film at this year's Cannes Film Festival, is based upon the true-to-life experiences of director Anthony Chen and his family's relationship with a Pinay OFW Nanny from the City of Iloilo, Philippines. Now, the film's facebook page has revealed that they have found the actual Pinay on whom the movie is based upon. Read the facebook statement after the jump.

Dear friends, some of you might know that ILO ILO was inspired by director Anthony Chen's memories of the domestic helper who worked for his family for eight years, whom he called Auntie Terry. The family lost touch with her after she returned to the Philippines for good... until now.

Thus, it is with great excitement and emotion that we make this announcement: The real Auntie Terry has been found. Her name is Teresa Sajunia, she is 55-years-old, and she lives in San Miguel, a municipal of Iloilo Province.

Here's what director Anthony Chen has to say about having found Auntie Terry:

"My family and I are completely overwhelmed by the goodwill coming from Iloilo and the Philippines in finding Auntie Terry. We honestly did not expect to hear any news so soon. It has been an emotional day for us, and I am extremely touched especially after seeing that she still kept so many photos from her time with us. There are so many questions running through my head right now. It's been 16 long years since she left Singapore, and we are definitely looking forward to get in touch soon."

We'd also like to thank Mr Charles Lim and his company Selrahco Management, who was inspired to reunite Auntie Terry with Anthony after hearing about the film. Truly, we would not have been able to find Auntie Terry without Mr Lim and his team.

ILO ILO is a story about love, family and relationships, and we could never have imagined that a little film like this could reach out, connect, and re-connect those ties that we thought were long lost... What a great way to end a Sunday night. We hope this piece of news brings a smile to your face, as it has ours
