Marvel's Kevin Feige Denies Rumors of a War Machine or Falcon Stand-Alone Movie

The buzz with the upcoming Captain America movie, in the context that the African American superhero known as the Falcon will be appearing, is that fans have been whispering to each other rumors of a Falcon stand-alone movie. Likewise, with the popularity of the Iron Man movies, a spin-off movie for War Machine has been rumored too. But then, Kevin Feige simply denied these rumors, and denied the possibility of those spin-offs ever being made. [Read the Rest of the Article after the Jump]

While we have a number of sequels headed our way in the immediate future (Thor 2, Captain America 2, The Avengers 2), the studio is also planning to branch out with new feature film adaptations of Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe becomes more widely populated, fans have been wondering whether supporting characters from the previous films will get their day in the sun with their own spinoffs.

Much has been made about the fact that Robert Downey Jr.’s contract with Marvel is up for renegotiation, but there was always the possibility that another Iron Man character could pick up the mantle in a future film.  As we saw with Iron Man 3, Don Cheadle’s Rhodey aka War Machine has become much more active in his own suit, and the sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier will see the appearance of Anthony Mackie as Falcon, another supporting character from the comics who eventually received his own standalone stories.

When asked if anybody at Marvel is currently developing or writing a possible Falcon or War Machine spinoff movie, to which the Marvel President responded with a simple “No.”  That doesn’t mean that we absolutely won’t see a Falcon or War Machine movie sometime in the future, but it doesn’t look like those films are in the cards anytime soon.  There has been talk of a possible Black Widow or Hawkeye movie in the past, but it’s unknown if those films are currently being developed. If you ask me, too many superhero movies for superheroes that may not create a really good storyline or good movie will just ruin the entire pot of Marvel movies.

Feige recently revealed that Marvel is actively working on a Doctor Strange movie for release sometime after Ant-Man and The Avengers 2, so it’s possible that the studio is simply focused on building new properties rather than spinning off supporting characters.
