The 2015 Gawad Urian Awards Nominees Roll Call

The nominees for the 38th Gawad Urian Awards have recently been announced. The nominees include Ilonggo Lav Diaz for the Best Director award for his work in "Mula sa Kung Ano Ang Noon", and fellow Ilonggo Tara Illenberger nominated for Best Editing for "The Janitor".

The films "Bwaya" which received ten nominations, "Dementia" which received three nominations, and "M: Mother’s Maiden Name" which received one nomination, were recently screened at the FDCP Iloilo Cinematheque.  Gaining the most number of nominations, Lav Diaz's "Mula sa Kung Ano Ang Noon", Giancarlo Abrahan's "Dagitab", and Jun Lana's "Barber's Tales" all had eleven nominations to various awards. The movies nominated for Best Picture include: "Barber’s Tale", "Bwaya", "Dagitab", and "Mula sa Kung Ano Ang Noon". The 38th Gawad Urian Awards will be held on June 16.

The announcements were made recently by the members of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino. The Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (the Filipino Film Critics) is currently regarded as the counterpart of the United States' New York Film Critics Circle. Due to its credible choices of winners, The Gawad Urian is considered the most prestigious film awards in the Philippines. Actress Nora Aunor is this year’s Natatanging Gawad Urian or Lifetime Achievement awardee. The awards night will be hosted by Robi Domingo, Butch Francisco and Angelica Panganiban.
