Fox developing X-Men Spin-off: The New Mutants

Oh yes, there is going to be another X-Men spin-off, and it's going to be The New Mutants. Fox will indeed be moving forward with the X-Men spinoff, The New Mutants, and has hired Josh Boone, who directed  The Fault in Our Stars, to direct. [hit the jump to continue]

Boone will co-write the screenplay with Knate Gwaltney (Kidnap), along with Simon Kingberg and Lauren Shuler Donner, who are both the stewards of the X-Men movie franchise, will produce. In an interview, Kinberg says:
“We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.”

The cast has yet to be named. The original line-up of The New Mutants include the characters Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Karma, Dani Moonstar. Although I am personally not expecting the X-Men to have an obliged appearance in this movie, I am expecting Professor X to be obligated to have a big role in this movie. Because a major factor in the source material is Professor X acting as the mentor and adviser of the team.

I've always thought that the New Mutants was the most ideal spin-off idea to be adapted for both the movies and TV, simply because its main storyline is centered upon young characters, teenagers, who struggle with handling not only their mutant powers but their unpredictable and sensitive teenage emotions as well. And this is the perfectly fitting material for studios to use that young adult "twilight" formula on. Because, yes, the source material itself has all the ideal aspects of the usual "young adult formula" (only better written than Twilight or The Hunger Games)
