Disney adds Pinocchio to its live-action adaptation line-up

Disney is on a roll with their reign of rebooting and remaking-in-live-action their line of old movies. We recently found out that Disney is making a live-action "Dumbo" and a "Mulan" movie. Now, they've announced that they will be making a live-action "Pinocchio" as well. [hit the jump to continue]

This is in line with the recent financial success of the live-action "Cinderella" which has grossed more than $400 million internationally to date. Then on, Disney seems to automatically greenlight their live-action adaptations. Jon Favreau‘s "The Jungle Book" is set for April 15, 2016, with the Alice in Wonderland sequel, "Alice Through the Looking Glass" due the following month on May 27th, 2016. Emma Watson and Dan Stevens are slated to lead the Bill Condon-directed adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast", which is set to begin filming next month. "Mulan", "Winnie The Pooh" and "Dumbo" are all in various stages of development.

There are two other Pinocchio adaptations floating around Hollywood at the moment, though it’s been a while since we’ve heard updates on either. Guillermo del Toro has been in development on a surreal stop-motion feature for years (we even got a look at his artwork two years ago), and Susan Downey is collaborating with husband Robert Downey Jr. to develop a version that would star him as Geppetto, Ben Stiller was in talks to direct at one point.

Pinocchio is the story of a wood-carved puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. With the help of Jiminy Cricket and the paternal Geppetto, Pinocchio goes on a quest to prove his worth and learns about the costs of lying along the way.
