X-Men Update: Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Lana Condor, and the New X-Men

The X-Men franchise are saying goodbyes to those who did their time and saying hello to young newcomers. Recently, Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman have expressed their departures from their roles, while the X-Men universe welcomes its most recently announced newcomer Lana Condor for the role of Jubilee. [hit the jump to continue]

When actors sign on to big franchises, they are normally under contract for the first movie plus options for two more films in the series (unless you’re signing a Marvel contract, in which case it could be seven or eight options). That was the case with X-Men, and though actors may subsequently renegotiate their deals at the end of the 3-film contract, staying involved in the franchise for longer, some may also choose to discontinue.

Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique
First off, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has spoken with MTV News and revealed that the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be her last X-Men movie, bringing her tenure as Mystique to a close. Producer Simon Kinberg had revealed that Apocalypse will go deeper on the relationship between Mystique and Beast, so she’ll likely play a major role in the film’s proceedings
X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine
Hugh Jackman had also revealed on Instagram this week that he will be playing Logan one last time, probably in the next Wolverine movie that James Mangold (who also directed the previous "The Wolverine" movie) will direct.

There is no word if he will indeed appear in "X-Men: Apocalypse". I'm guessing that his appearance would be more of a surprise cameo, just like he did in "X-Men: First Class" wherein his character just popped in on one of the scenes. I'm hoping that his appearance, if there would be any, would be longer though. When he announced this week his "one last time" quote on twitter, I am actually hoping that he has already done with his scenes for Apocalypse and his quote is meant for the sequel for "The Wolverine".

We would surely miss him. It would surely be really large shoes to fill for the next guy who gets picked to become the next Wolverine. Over the years and over the course of the X-Men movies, Jackman had embraced his character role like no other actor. And in such a manner that he has become to indeed captured the look and the personality of his character. But I guess it is indeed hard to keep up with a Wolverine physique forever.

The 46-year-old actor is currently in production on the ski jumper biopic Eddie the Eagle starring opposite Taron Egerton, and he steps into the role of Blackbeard in this summer’s Pan from visionary director Joe Wright. Production-wise, Jackman is poised to shoot the P.T. Barnum biopic The Greatest Showman on Earth later this year, and then he and Mangold will likely reunite for the final Wolverine movie sometime in 2016 in anticipation of that film’s 2017 release.

Lana Condor, Jubilee, and the New X-Men
The X-Men universe is being boarded by the next generation of young mutants. Younger iterations of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm are poised to have significant roles in Apocalypse, so the film could serve as a semi-goodbye to the First Class cast while passing on the baton to these other newcomers. The young new lineup includes Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), and Ben Hardy (Angel). The latest addition is actress Lana Condor, who director Bryan Singer revealed on Instagram will be playing the character Jubilation Lee—aka Jubilee.

Oscar Isaac as the titular villain and Rose Byrne reprising her X-Men: First Class role. Latino-Review reports that the movie will feature appearances by Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Halle Berry’s Storm, and the debut of Channing Tatum’s Gambit, who’s getting his own spinoff movie set for release on October 7, 2016.
