Drew Goddard will direct Spider-man and all the talk of a Black Spider-man

Drew Goddard who's been known to co-write and direct the phenomenal horror hit "The Cabin in the Woods" has been tapped to write and direct the Spider-Man reboot for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. This clearly seals all the hanging rumors that Sony's "Sinister Six" project is being made. [hit the jump to continue]

Drew Goddard
If I didn't know any better, I'd say that Goddard is probably lighting a lot of thanksgiving candles because initially, he was the first person who was set to write, direct, and act as showrunner on Marvel’s "Daredevil" series with Netflicks. But after penning the first couple of episodes, he left that show to focus on "Sinister Six", but then recently, when Sony did manage to let Marvel Studios use Spider-man and announced a new Spider-man series, it looked like the Sinister Six project was going to be scrapped; which makes us believe that he left Daredevil for nothing. It's a good thing he's back on the program as he got hired for the new Spider-man movie.

Personally, I love Drew Goddard's work on "The Cabin in the Woods" which I regard as one of the best horror movies ever made. I have high hopes for Goddard's ability to bring a great Spider-man movie to life. It is also not much of a surprise that Drew Goddard will easily blend well with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the fact that Goddard has already had a collaborative bond with "The Avengers" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" director Joss Whedon who was his partner when they did "The Cabin in the Woods".

The Black Spider-man
Marvel’s Kevin Feige has been wanting this character for a long time now, and he comes to the table with plenty of ideas about how to bring him into the Marvel fold. Details have also recently surfaced about the new Spider-man movie; A major part of the first film will involve Spider-Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the ‘audition’ to join the Avengers. This first Spider-Man reboot will apparently involve the Sinister Six coming together, with the idea that there may be a spinoff movie down the road. Reports reveal that this reboot won’t be a new origin story; Spidey will be established from the beginning. That means no more Uncle Ben drama (not unless we'll be seeing a non-Peter-Parker Spidey movie). And that the studios want to cast a young, new actor to play a High School-based Spider-Man, with the thought that he can grow into the role not unlike the actors in the Harry Potter series. From the looks of it, Sony and Marvel are looking forward to a franchise with a better longevity than the previous Spidey movies. Let's just hope that they wont screw it up though.

There's been a rumor surfacing around that the new Spider-man will not be white, but black; that it will not be Peter Parker, but rather; Miles Morales. The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider (via /Film)while on the Meet the Movie Press podcast, revealed:
“Listen, this is not set in stone guys, but I’m telling you right now, Spider-Man’s not gonna be white. Spider-Man is not going to be white … I am 95% sure. Spider-Man’s gonna be, most likely, black. But there’s a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure, not white. I don’t think it’s gonna be Peter Parker.”

Who is Miles Morales? A teenager of Black Hispanic descent, Miles is the second Spider-Man in the Ultimate Marvel continuity. The character possesses powers similar to those of the original Spider-Man, which were derived from the bite of a spider genetically engineered by Spider-Man's nemesis Norman Osborn in an attempt to duplicate those abilities. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe does not really adapt the Ultimate Marvel Universe, it does tend to use certain aspects of it. When you think about it, the MCU does not even fully adapt the Marvel Comics Universe entirely also. The MCU is a thing of its own and it melds both Marvel Comics Universe and Ultimate Marvel Universe well in a manner that it is intended to work well on film.

We'll be seeing Spider-man in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" and then we'll see him in his own solo movie set for release July 28, 2017.
