New Movies this Week [01-08-2015]

Now that the MMFF Week is pretty much slowing down to a close, regular movie release schedules have resumed, and welcomes one Filipino Horror Movie and two Hollywood flicks...
[hit the jump to continue]

Seventh Son
based on the novel The Spook's Apprentice (titled The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch in America). The story centers on Thomas Ward, a seventh son of a seventh son, and his adventures as the apprentice of the Spook. It is directed by Sergei Bodrov and stars Ben Barnes, Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Djimon Honsou, and (Jon Snow himself) Kit Harington.

It is scheduled for release in the United States on February 6, 2015; but we get to have an earlier screening here set on January 8, 2015.

Tragic Theater
In February 1999, a group of spirit communicators attempted to exorcise the then-abandoned Manila Film Center of ghosts. These supernatural beings were believed to be those of the victims from a fatal accident during its hasty construction. Unknown to them, something had long ago taken sanctuary inside the building feeding on the anger and misery of the victims' souls. They learned this secret too late and walked into a horrifying encounter. "Tragic Theater" is based on a book of the same title by G. M. Coronel who also wrote "Tomb Keeper". "Tragic Theater" is directed by Tikoy Aguiluz, and stars Andi Eigenmann, Christopher de Leon, and John Estrada. It is set to be shown this week, specifically opening on January 8, 2015.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb
This third movie off the Night at the Museum franchise is directed by Shawn Levy and written by David Guion and Michael Handelman. It stars Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Dan Stevens and Ben Kingsley. The film follows the same premise of the two previous movies, wherein the exhibits, figures, and statues inside a museum come to life at night. The film is dedicated to both Robin Williams and Mickey Rooney, as both actors died before the film's release.

The film was released on December 19, 2014, and is set for Philippine release this January 8, 2015.

Love, Rosie
(also known as Rosie Dunne) is a British romantic comedy directed by Christian Ditter and written by Juliette Towhidi, based on the 2004 novel Where Rainbows End by Irish author Cecelia Ahern. The film stars Lily Collins, who is best known for her roles in Tarsem Singh's Snow White movie "Mirror Mirror" and the film adaptation "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" and Sam Claflin, who is best known as Finnick Odair from "The Hunger Games" movies and William in "Snow White and the Huntsman". It also stars Tamsin Egerton, Suki Waterhouse, Jaime Winstone and Lily Laight. The film was released in the UK last October 2014, and its Philippine release this January 8, 2015.
