Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn for WB and DC's SUICIDE SQUAD; Jared Leto eyed to be The Joker

Warner Bros and DC are gradually developing their own DC Cinematic Universe with their line-up of superhero-related films coming soon. Among them is "Suicide Squad" which will be directed by David Ayer (Fury, Street Kings, End of Watch). Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) were in negotiations for roles in the movie. But now, we have received confirmation that Margot Robbie is in the movie and will be playing the Batman villainess and Suicide Squad member, Harley Quinn. In addition, we also have word that Jared Leto is being courted to play The Joker. [hit the jump to continue]

David Ayer actually describes as “The Dirty Dozen with supervillains” who were hired/coerced by the government for a dangerous assignment. And of course, this movie will indeed feature a bunch of interesting super-villains. The movie will probably not stick too much to the original line-up of the team, Harley Quinn herself only became a member in the later iterations of the Suicide Squad.

The villainess Harley Quinn was actually introduced in "Batman: The Animated Series" (in my opinion, THE best iteration of Batman can be found in this TV series) She’s been victimized as one of Joker’s sick jokes since she was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum (her real name is “Harleen Quinzel”) who tried analyzing the Joker, and he psychologically manipulated her (in a sort of Hannibal fashion) into being infatuated with him instead. She became the Joker’s girlfriend/henchwoman, and has gone on to become a popular rogue/anti-hero in her own right.  This will be the first time the character has ever been portrayed on the big screen.

As for Margot Robbie, she does look the part of Harley
Apart from "The Wolf of Wall Street" Robbie will be having upcoming roles in "Focus", "Tarzan", "Z for Zachariah", and "The Taliban Shuffle".

As for Jared Leto, I think he's PERFECT for the Joker; the look, the physicality, and the acting chops. It would be depressing to imagine otherwise. The first draft of Suicide Squad reportedly did not include the character of The Joker, but The Wrap says Ayer is expected to include the character in his revision.
