Warner Bros. Officially Reveals Upcoming DC Cinematic Universe Movies; Justice League, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Shazam, Cyborg, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Suicide Squad

Warner Bros. has finally revealed its full list of upcoming DC Movie projects with their target release dates, which confirms a Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg stand-alone movies. Included in the list is The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as the title character, which confirms that the cinematic DC universe indeed will not be connected with the CW TV network DC universe. The news also revealed that a Green Lantern reboot is in the plans to be done. [hit the jump to continue]

Here is the list of the upcoming DC movies:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – March 25, 2016
Suicide Squad – August 5, 2016
Wonder Woman – June 23, 2017
Justice League Part One – November 17, 2017
The Flash – March 23, 2018
Aquaman – July 27, 2018
Shazam – April 5, 2019
Justice League Part Two – June 14, 2019
Cyborg – April 3, 2020
Green Lantern – June 19, 2020

WB has also announced they have stand-alone Batman and Superman films planned in the future as well.

Suicide Squad is a pretty odd choice to be brought in to be included in WB's plans for the DC cinematic universe, but it is a positively interesting movie however. David Ayer is slated to direct it, and that's the one bright spot for this specific movie, Ayer is known for being the writer of "Training Day" and the first "The Fast and the Furious" movie, and directed films like "Street Kings", "End of Watch", and the upcoming Brad Pitt World War 2 and Tanks movie "Fury". In addition, I'm quite happy that the rumored list of characters for the movie seems to go back to the classic 80's lineup: Deadshot, Harkness, Vixen, Blockbuster, Multiplex, Jaculi and Mindblogger. WB is currently courting top caliber actors such as Ryan Gosling, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Tom Hardy for the role.

Wonder Woman's origin has recently been revealed, and it will be closely related to DC comics' New 52 Origin. According to producer Charles Roven [via Badass Digest], Wonder Woman will be a demigod fathered by Zeus. In the original character origin, the Amazons were created by the gods using the souls of all the women murdered by men. There was, when it was all said and done, one soul remaining, the soul of the unborn daughter of the first woman to ever be murdered by a man. That woman was Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, and she molded a figure of clay and gave to it the soul of that unborn girl. The clay was animated and became Diana a.k.a. Wonder Woman, who was gifted abilities from the gods. That part of the origin is consolidated in the cinematic story as legend, and the actual origin is that the clay is only a legend, and the reality is that Diana is born from Zeus having sex with Diana’s mother, Hippolyta.

The cinematic Flash crushes all hopes that the rumors that the DC universe established by the CW network's series "Arrow" and "The Flash" will be related with WB's Cinematic DC universe. Ezra Miller who is known for his role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower will star as the title character.

The upcoming Green Lantern will no longer be having anything to do with the 2011 movie; yes, it's going to be a reboot. In my opinion, the damage done by the 2011 movie is salvage-able by simply introducing the other Green Lantern character: John Stewart. But then again, WB might already have its fill with African-American leads with the Cyborg movie, and surely the focus would revert back on the well-known Green Lantern Hal Jordan.

The Cyborg movie with Ray Fisher in the lead will probably be more than just something that will mirror Marvel's Iron Man's tech-oriented action, instead it might be tapping in the young adult demographic because Cyborg is best known as a character that has its origin rooted in the Teen Titans title. Aquaman will star Jason Momoa, and Shazam, as earlier reported, will star Dwayne Johnson as the villain.
