Dwayne Johnson is the villain Black Adam, for DC's Shazam

It's official; Dwayne Johnson will play the villain Black Adam for the upcoming DC movie Shazam. A month ago, Johnson announced that he was going to be part of the movie, but had not revealed whether he'd be playing the hero or the villain. Now, we get to see Johnson play the big mean villain. [hit the jump to continue]

At his twitter page, Johnson reveals:
"Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot." My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics https://twitter.com/TheRock/status/507189313579122689/photo/1

WHO IS BLACK ADAM? Long ago, the council of wizards—powerful beings that held dominion over all magic in the world—chose the warrior Black Adam as their champion, granting him vast magical powers and abilities. However, that power only further skewed Adam’s already maligned moral compass, and rather than use his newfound gifts to help others, he used it to dominate them.

Adam turned against the wizards and after a brutal battle was imprisoned for thousands of years. But now he is free once more, and his insatiable quest to conquer the world, to control all magic, continues. The only thing that stands in his way is Shazam!, the new champion of magic—and Black Adam will do anything in his power to destroy him and assert his position as the true ruler of the world.

Driven by a need to rule, incredibly arrogant and one of the most powerful beings on the planet, Black Adam lives by a simple creed: kneel at his feet or be crushed by his boot.

THE TONE OF THE MOVIE
New Line (a subsidiary of Warner Bros.) president Toby Emmerich is talking about the project and teasing its unique tone. In an interview with EW, Emmerich says:
“It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself.  It’s a DC comic, but it’s not a Justice League character, and it’s not a Marvel comic.  The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies.”

Emmerich added that the movie will have some fun and humor to it, but also stressed the importance of having stakes that feel real.  Of course, Emmerich didn’t divulge any information on the plot of the film and also didn’t hint at any actors in the running for the hero role, that of Shazam, but he did dub Black Adam an antihero and further explained:
“Black Adam is a complex character.  The villain in superhero movies is often, I think, what makes the movie.  And I thought Dwayne’s take on the character, and the way that he saw Black Adam, was really compelling and fun.”

Jack the Giant Slayer and Goosebumps scribe Darren Lemke is set to pen the film.
Shazam is rumored to be a project targeted for 2016.
