A Tiyanak Remake is on the works. Simply titled: T'yanak

The original 1988 Tiyanak, which was directed by Peque Gallage and Lore Reyes, was one of the most unforgettable horror movies, and the Tiyanak itself became one of the most iconic movie monsters in Philippine cinema. Now, Peque and Lore will bring back the Tiyanak to terrorize a new generation of audiences with a new movie entitled: T'yanak. Shooting has just begun last Tuesday. [hit the jump to continue]

"T'yanak" will star Judy Ann Santos, Sid Lucero, Tom Rodriguez, and Solenn Heussaff. The story is set in a quiet town called Puting Bato, which is terrorized by savage murders. The chief suspect is the foundling baby who is under the care of Julie (Judy Ann Santos). Her brother Mark (Tom Rodriguez) and his fiancee Madie (Solenn Heussaff) become the target of the T’yanak. A widower (Sid Lucero) who lost his wife in a vicious T’yanak attack adds a brutal layer of terror in a town already petrified by fear. Shooting has begun this week, and a photo from the set was shared by Judy Ann Santos' facebook page...

Since 2008, Gallaga had already revealed in an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer his wishes to remake Tiyanak, saying:
“In my original Tiyanak, we used hand puppets. With all the digital wizardry now, it would be fantastic, a lot more sophisticated."

The Tiyanak is a monster of Philippine mythology, who takes the form of a newborn baby who lures his victims with his innocent cries. In the 1988 movie, the Tiyanak terrorized Janice De Belen and Lotlot De Leon.

In 2007, Regal Films attempted to make a sequel to the 1988 Tiyanak, entitled "Tiyanaks" which was directed by Mark Reyes. But the forgettable flick was not good enough to be worth being acknowledged.

"T'yanak" will once again be directed by Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes, and is set to take part in the Horror Festival organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
