Search for Weng Weng to be Screened in Iloilo August 7
To those who had remembered how it was with Philippine cinema in the 70's and early 80's, there was a 2-feet, 9-inch tall action star named Weng Weng, a fascinating actor that was so one-of-a-kind, that decades later his existence and his involvement with Philippine cinema would be a story that audiences across the globe would pay attention to. "The Search for Weng Weng" is an intriguing documentary from Australian filmmaker Andrew Leavold that chronicles Weng Weng's tale, and it will have a screening this Thursday August 7, 2014 at the FDCP Cinematheque. Weng Weng is the Guinness World Records' shortest adult actor in a leading role with the height of only 2 feet, 9 inches. He was the lead actor spy action-comedies "For Y’ur Height Only" and "The Impossible Kid" and also starred in the Pinoy western "D’Wild Wild Weng". He had this momentary popularity in the 70's and fell into forgotten cult obscurity in around the mid-80's. It was not until around 2007 when film fanatics revived Weng Weng's cult popularity on the internet.
"The Search for Weng Weng" is the unbelievable true story of the real life 2’9 Filipino James Bond, and reveals the sadness behind the comedy. Shot over seven years in Manila, it’s the ultimate history of Filipino B-films and chronicles Leavold’s obsessive quest to find the truth behind what really happened to Weng Weng. With interviews from Dolphy, Eddie Garcia, Imee Marcos and so many more.
This screening of this documentary is part of its Philippine Tour which goes from Baguio on August 1, Dumaguete August 4, and Cebu on August 5. The FDCP Cinematheque is located at B&C Square Bldg., Solis St., Iloilo City (near BPI Iznart).
