Georgian Films Roadshow this weekend at the FDCP Cinematheque

For three days, the FDCP Cinematheque will be featuring the Georgian Films Roadshow, a handful of beautiful films from Georgia. The festival will run from August 22 Friday till August 24 Sunday. The films will be composed of two feature length films and three short films. Admission is Free! Check it out this week at the FDCP Cinematheque, Solis Street, Iloilo City. The Other Bank (Gagma Napiri)

Set outside the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, 12-year-old Tedo (Tedo Baukhari) is upset that his mother has taken a lover. So he sets out to find his dad, who was left in the now-breakaway Republic of Abkhazia. Tedo is on a road trip where he is forced to depend on the kindness of strangers. The film's director George Ovashvili won the New Director’s Showcase Award and the Seattle International Film Festival. This was Georgia's submission to the 82nd Academy Award for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Keep Smiling (Gaigimet)
This black comedy drama is about 10 women, seven of them belonging to the poorest population, are desperately trying to win a beauty contest for mothers who have more than 3 children. The winner will get an apartment and $25000. With the stage set for the televised live grand finale, it's all big happy smiles and a chance to finally shine but none are prepared for the bizarre and tragic turns ahead as tensions finally reach breaking point while an eager all cheering audience bear witness. The film was selected as the Georgian entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards.

Will There Be a Theatre Up There?!

It depicts the chronicle of a big family - Kavsadzes - family of great folk singers and their life ordeal, which reflects the lives of millions who lived in former USSR. These people participated in the World War II; captured in concentration camps of Nazi Germany and afterwords in concentration camps of USSR. Despite of tragic fate Kakhi became a great actor and now he is loved and well known not only in Georgia but beyond its borders. His love story is also full of romantic and dramatic details and is known in Georgia as the Legend of Love and Loyalty.

An ordinary soldier carrying food for fellow warriors at the frontline steps on a mine. He tries hard to free himself but the cynicism of war works its tricks.
