Action Sequence and Character will be deleted from upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past"

X-Men: Days of Future Past is expected to be one mega-superhero-movie that will cross-over Bryan Singer's X-Men universe and its prequel universe from X-Men: First Class. And it is expected to be big and dense. With such a production, it would not be surprising that there would be more than enough scenes and even action sequences which will end up at the cutting floor. There is going to be one action sequence which will be deleted from the movie, and as an effect, one main character will have to be excluded from the movie. That character which we wont be seeing in the next X-Men movie is Rogue. Yes, Anna Paquin will not be included in the movie; but her scene will most probably be included in the deleted scenes from the blue-ray and dvd of the movie when it will come out. [hit the jump to continue]

EW reports that Singer recently cut a rescue sequence shot during the early days of production on X-Men: Days of Future Past.  The sequence also starred Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and Shawn Ashmore as Iceman.  It contained Paquin’s only screentime as Rogue, as she was only on set for about a week.  Here’s what Singer had to say:

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”

Singer emphasized that the decision had nothing to do with Paquin’s performance, only that the scene didn’t work for the overall film.  It’s unfortunate news for fans of Rogue, but perhaps she’ll make the Bonus Features cut.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will open in Philippine cinemas May 22, 2014.
