Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR has begun Filming

After creating such a gigantic reputation with movies like INCEPTION and his DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY, there would obviously be much anticipation as to what Christopher Nolan would be doing next. Nolan, is now about to embark on a sci-fi project entitled INTERSTELLAR, which is based on a script that his brother Jonathan Nolan initially conceived and put together for Steven Spielberg to direct. Years later, Chris Nolan retooled his brother’s draft, and incorporated his own ideas into the script, now he's the one set to direct it, with its release planned for a November 7, 2014 release date. This week, Paramount and Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that principal photography on INTERSTELLAR is officially underway in Alberta, Canada. The film will be released in IMAX and regular 35mm theaters. Paramount Pictures will distribute domestically, Warner Bros. Pictures internationally. [hit the jump to continue]

The production will travel the globe and utilize a mixture of 35mm anamorphic and IMAX film photography to bring to the screen a script based on the combination of an original idea by Nolan and an existing script by Jonathan Nolan, originally developed for Paramount Pictures and producer Lynda Obst. The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

“INTERSTELLAR” features a prestigious cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin (Rachel Getting Married, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), John Lithgow (Terms of Endearment, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Gone Baby Gone), David Gyasi (Cloud Atlas), Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games), Mackenzie Foy (The Twilight Saga), Timothée Chalamet (Homeland), Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3, That 70's Show), David Oyelowo (Jack Reacher, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream, The Exorcist), and Michael Caine.

Hoyte van Hoytema (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) has stepped-in for Nolan’s long-time cinematographer Wally Pfister, who is currently at work on his directorial debut, Transcendence.  Nolan will be re-teaming with production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Lee Smith, composer Hans Zimmer, and visual effects supervisor Paul Franklin.  Mary Zophres, who has handled the costumes on every Coen Brothers movie since Fargo, will bring her talents to Nolan’s movie.
