Jesse Robredo biopic currently being developed

One of the most admired people in recent Philippine History is the late local government secretary Jesse Robredo. A man many consider worthy of being remembered in our nation's history. Now a film about his life is currently being developed, with Epy Quizon at the helm as director.

According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Quizon said that the film would be about Robredo as a father, husband and friend. He said he did not want “a political movie,” though Robredo’s political career would be woven into the story. Quizon noted, “He was very smart and goal-driven. He had no vices. He had lots of friends but no one was special—he treated them equally.” [read the full article after the jump]

With this movie, Quizon wants to tell an “authentic” story about a man whom many looked up to.

Quizon and his team have been doing research about Robredo, conducting interviews with Robredo’s friends. “It was very apparent that they loved him,” Quizon said, “because as they related experiences with him, they would be smiling.”

Official casting has not yet been announced. auditions for the role were ongoing and priority would be given to Bicolano applicants.

The target date for release was supposed to be on Robredo’s first death anniversary in August this year. But production was postponed because they did not want the project to be misconstrued as a political propaganda what with Leni Robredo having ran for Congress.

Aside from being one of the most prominent actors in Philippine Cinema, Epy Quizon (formally known as Jeffrey Quizon) is also well-experienced off camera, having been Second Unit Director or Assistant Director to projects such as "Dito sa Puso Ko" and "Pagdating ng Panahon", and "Ms. Kristina Moran: Babaeng Palaban" both of which he also wrote.
