Will Dredd Come Back?

One of the most underrated comicbook/superhero movies ever made is the 2012 Judge Dredd movie adaptation, simply titled DREDD. Unfortunately, the movie did not meet expectations in the box office, despite that it was indeed a damn good movie, and was strongly praised by critics. Because of its box-office failure, we all thought that there would be no hope for a sequel to DREDD. It turns out that there is some small glint of hope for a sequel, according to its star Karl Urban.

Karl Urban (recently seen as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in Star Trek Into Darkness) has been in touch with Dredd producer/director Alex Garland and revealed that there is still some hope with a Dredd sequel, but it all depends on how its fanbase. In an interview with Collider, this is what he said...

“Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning.  It’s not off the agenda.  Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it.  It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen.  The power of fandom can resurrect projects.  In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek (the series). They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.”

What was so great about DREDD is that it has remained faithful to the essence of the Judge Dredd comics. The hardcore tone, the violence, and the grit. Up to the point that Karl Urban, who is himself a fan of the Judge Dredd comics, refused to play the role unless he remains wearing the Dredd helmet all throughout the movie (Of course, because we never do see Judge Dredd's 'unmasked' face in the comics). It would be awesome to have the entire crew back to continue working on the exploits of Dredd.
