21 Jump Street goes to College

Yes, 21 Jump Street 2 is a Go! Producer Neal Moritz recently said that the college-bound follow-up to the 2012 sensation starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will bring back directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Speaking in an interview with Collider, Moritz said Sony has an eye for a release in the summer 0f 2014, and Tatum and Hill will have Ice Cube back as their aggressive captain again. And while the producer also confirmed the sequel would take our undercover officers to college, he would not say which university they would be heading, because apparently there's some "fun to be had in what college they’re going to and what’s going to happen.  It really just starts there.” A first draft of the script by Michael Bacall and Jonah Hill has been done and a second draft is being worked on right now. Moritz added that they're dedicated to keeping the heart of the first film intact. He says in the interview:

“The relationship developed quite a bit in the first movie and now we’re kind of in the marriage phase between the two guys.  Now they’re actual partners, so they’re married – what happens once marriage starts?  In certain ways, it’s kind of like the Seven Year Itch of police buddy comedies.  What worked so well about the first one was – it was funny, yes, there was good action, yes – but really what worked more than anything was that there was great heart.  That’s the thing we’ve been working really hard on, just try and make sure that the heart of the first one is there for the second one.”
