Justin Lin to leave the Fast and Furious series after Fast 6; James Wan to continue franchise

The Fast & Furious movies have been getting bigger and better. I would probably put all the thanks to Justin Lin. He made the third movie in this franchise such an interesting unique sequel (semi prequel). He made the Fourth one a hit. And then he made Fast Five phenomenal. Now, however, it seems that Fast 6 will be his last movie in the series, and the studios have chosen James Wan (of the Saw movies) to take his place. [click below to read the rest of the article]

The Fast & Furious series got so big, that there have been talks of a spin-off of the Luke Hobbs character, and rumor of Lin actually shooting part 6 and 7 at the same time. The Hobbs spin-off may come true, but fact of the matter is that the franchise helmer Justin Lin would not be directing the next installment of the series. This of course proved problematic for Universal, as their plan is to get the seventh film into theaters by next summer. It was clear they would have to find a replacement fast. Lo and behold, in just a few days time, it looks like they have done exactly that. The studio is in negotiations with James Wan ('Saw,' 'Insidious') to take over behind the camera. Landing this gig might just be the perfect cap on Wan's outstanding year. He has two films hitting theaters in 2013: 'The Conjuring' and 'Insidious 2.' The deal has not been finalized, but sources expect Wan to officially secure the job by week's end.

Lin said he wanted to take a break, and while he wasn’t going back to developing a possibility of directing a Terminator movie, he still considered the reboot of Highlander a possibility at Summit. Initially, some people might pessimistically think that Wan is just good for horror. I'd give him more optimistic trust than that, Wan's works are enough to prove that he has a good eye for tension and rich character development. I think it's a good choice, since Fast Five proved that this series could become more of the characters than just the cars.
