Daredevil's Rights are now back in Marvel Studio's hands

Marvel Studios has secured the rights to the Marvel comics character Daredevil, whose rights was previously owned by 20th Century Fox. The 2003 Daredevil movie was actually a failure as it was terribly maligned by critics, it was despised by fans of the Daredevil comics, and did not even a spawn cult fanbase big enough to fuel interest in following it. Everybody, including Affleck himself, were interested in doing something darker with it, but the big men at the studios do not seem to know what to do with it.

After a very long period of trying to develop it, time has ran out for 20th Century Fox. A sequel or reboot should have to start filming by 10 October 2012, or else the rights to the Daredevil franchise would revert from Fox back to Marvel. And so it did; This month, Kevin Feige confirmed that the rights for Daredevil returned to Marvel Studios and Disney, opening the possibility of including the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

From 1986 to 1996, most of Marvel’s major characters had been optioned, including the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-man, Hulk, Silver Surfer, and Iron Man. Around the late 90s, 20th Century Fox acquired rights to Daredevil when they were developing the 2003 movie. After the 2003 Daredevil, Fox has been trying to develop a sequel, but never materialized. There was even a talk of utilizing for the sequel, the Born Again storyline, which details Daredevil's descent into insanity and destitution at the hands of the Kingpin, as well as his subsequent struggle to build a new life for himself.

In 2006 Affleck stated that he would never reprise the role, having felt "by playing a superhero in Daredevil, I have inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero... Wearing a costume was a source of humiliation for me and something I wouldn't want to do again soon."

In July 2008, Jason Statham had expressed interest in appearing as Daredevil in the future. All this time, its producers were still trying to develop Daredevil, but never reaching a finalization. With the deadline for holding on to its rights became near, the studio briefly met with Joe Carnahan, for the job—however, Carnahan said on Twitter that his pitch, described as a hard-boiled '70s thriller (which I personally loved, check out the pitch video below), had gone up in smoke. Daredevil eventually slipped through Fox's fingers and went home to Marvel.

It would have been easier to make a good Daredevil movie by now, especially that they can have Chris Nolan's Batman as an inspiration for it. Only make it darker, preferably something set in the 70's, just like Carnahan's pitch. But with Daredevil now on the hands of Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios, and Disney, many of you might be thinking if this character (and his own universe) would be melded along with the 'Avengers' universe. Would you want to see Daredevil fight side-by-side the Avengers?

If you ask me, I personally prefer that Daredevil would be as far away from the Avengers Universe Marvel movies as possible. Daredevil has a specific tone which is more closer to rated R action movies from the 70's and 80's. There's a lot of murder and tragedy surrounding the Daredevil movies. To treat it lightly with family audience factors would be like re-creating the failure of that first Wolverine movie. The most surreal aspect of Daredevil are the ninjas, aside from that, I prefer aliens, robots, and big monsters NEVER make a hint of existence in Daredevil's world.

What do you guys think? What kind of Daredevil movie would you like to see? Who would you like to portray as Daredevil? Hit the comments section!
