1980's The Equalizer set to be a Denzel Washington Movie

THE EQUALIZER is Back!
THE EQUALIZER was a 1980s crime TV series which stars Edward Woodward as a middle aged retired intelligence officer with a mysterious past who helps people in trouble. Now Hollywood is set to revive it into a movie, which might reunite Training Day director Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington.
Fuqua is in early talks to direct Washington in this crime thriller. Sony Pictures is looking to The Equalizer as a possible franchise for Washington.

While the film deviates from the original series by creating a spin on the story catered to Washington’s talents, teaming him up with Fuqua again could lead to another intense and captivating performance similar to Washington’s in Training Day, which nabbed him a Best Actor Oscar.

Following the premise of the original TV series, The Equalizer would see Washington as a man who despises injustice, and channels that into helping those less fortunate who are victimized, as reported by Deadline.  The role does sound tailor-made for Washington, but the script drew enough attention from several possible directors such as Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) and most recently Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) that it must have real potential for a smart and successful thriller.  With Fuqua and Washington’s past triumphs together, having them team up again could solidify The Equalizer’s chances for blockbuster success.
