Assassin's Creed Movie in the works; Michael Fassbender set to star and co-produce

ASSASSIN'S CREED OUT TO ASSASSINATE THE SILVER SCREEN
by Reymundo Salao

Gamer Geeks out there must be flipping out over the news that an ASSASSIN'S CREED movie is about to be made into a movie, one that will be produced by and will star Michael Fassbender. It was actually earlier this year that Sony Pictures announced its intentions to adapt Ubisoft’s popular video game into a movie. But Sony's plans were stalling due to Ubisoft’s demands for control.  The negotiations between the studios were put on hold as Ubisoft looked to develop the film independently.  However, the film is set to go anyway as Michael Fassbender is set to star in and co-produce the flick.

Negotiations with Sony might have become unstable because these game franchises are now careful of just throwing their properties over to big companies. Ubisoft obviously hopes it doesn't wind up with another "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," adapted by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer. Pic earned a disappointing $335 million worldwide, with just $91 million of that in the U.S. last year, ending any franchise dreams.

Many fans are surely thrilled by this news since Fassbender is currently on the rise as one of Hollywood's most powerful actors and genre icons. Many may have first seen him in the graphic novel movie adaptation of 300, then he starred as Magneto in the magnificent X-Men First Class, he was also in Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, and was seen earlier this year as the humanoid robot in Prometheus. He was also in the movies Shame, and Hunger, where he garnered several highly-respectable acting awards from there movies.

Assassin's Creed is an award winning historical fiction action-adventure open world stealth video game series that as of 2012 consists of five main games and a number of supporting materials. It’s not yet announced if the film will adapt the first game, jump into the sequels, or craft an entirely new story by using the series’ basic premise.

The storyline of (the first) Assassin's Creed is about Desmond Miles, a bartender who is kidnapped by a powerful corporation called Abstergo. While captive, Desmond is informed that he can use a machine called the Animus created by Abstergo to relive his ancestors' memories. He consents to use the machine and relives the memories of his ancestor Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad.

Altaïr, Desmond's ancestor, is a disgraced assassin because he broke the three tenets of the Assassin's Creed: Never kill an innocent person; Always be discreet; and Never compromise the brotherhood.

In order to regain his former status Altaïr must hunt down nine key targets. Altaïr reluctantly agrees and he slowly hunts down the men.

The bulk of the game takes place during the Third Crusade in the Holy Land in 1191, with the plot revolving around a sect known as the Secret Order of Hashashin (Assassins), and also involves a lot of the Knight's Templar, Muslim warriors, and a lot of parkour stuff. The sequels involve other assassins and also classic historical icons like Leonardo Da Vinci and the new installment is even set in colonial United States of America.

No target release date has yet been announced as far as the movie adaptation goes.
