Mark Millar's Chrononauts hitting the big screen

Writer Mark Millar has been currently one of the hottest names in mainstream cinema what with his various graphic novels and comic book works recently getting the big film adaptation treatment; among them are Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service and Wanted, with several other coming to the screen as well. Now, another one is adding to that long list and may be destined to be another big hit; "Chrononauts". [hit the jump to continue]

Mark Millar's STARLIGHT being Developed into a Movie

Mark Millar's six-part graphic novel mini-series "Starlight" is still ongoing (issue number five was just released last month), but Twentieth Century Fox is already picking it up for a movie adaptation. Gary Whitta, who has been hired to write one of the upcoming Star Wars standalone films to be directed by Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards, has been hired to pen the script for this "Starlight" adaptation as well. No target release date has been announced yet.

"Starlight" taps on classic space opera sensibilities. Millar himself described it as a mash-up of Flash Gordon and The Dark Knight Returns. The story centers on Duke McQueen who, forty years ago, saved an alien world from destruction. Back on Earth, nobody believed his story. Now his kids are grown, his wife has passed on, and life has little to offer. Until the day a strange boy from the world he once saved makes an appearance, coaxing Duke to join him on one last adventure. Can Duke handle the leap from has-been to hero?

"Kingsman: The Secret Service" is the new title of The Secret Service adaptation; sets official release date, posters, and trailer

The upcoming film adaptation of the Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons graphic novel series "The Secret Service" now has a new title and an official release date. Directed by Matthew Vaughn (who also directed "X-Men First Class" and that other Mark Millar story "Kick-Ass"), this adaptation has been retitled: "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and now has an official release date set on October 24, 2014. Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Mark Millar's THE SECRET SERVICE now in production

After passing on the sequel to X-Men: First Class and being in the running for Star Wars: Episode VII, Matthew Vaughn is set to helm an adaptation of Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel series The Secret Service, which the director began developing back in 2011.  The story is about a veteran secret agent who takes his ruffian nephew from the streets of London and into a British spy school that molds its students into suave 007-types.  Colin Firth is onboard to play the uncle, and newcomers Taron Egerton for the younger lead, and Sophie Cookson has landed the female lead. Michael Caine will play the head of the spy organization, and Samuel L. Jackson is set to play the villain. Vaughn has reportedly completed the script with writing partner Jane Goldman. As we saw with Kick-Ass, Vaughn and Goldman have had success in turning Millar’s style into a hit. [hit the jump to continue]

Fox's X-Men and Fantastic Four are in the Same Movie Universe

Marvel's AVENGERS movie proved that nurturing a comicbook-based universe in movies results in potential franchise blockbuster success. While the DC movies have been making really sad attempts of launching their own Justice League franchise, 20th Century Fox seems to be making good decisions with their own X-Men universe, what with the established link between first three X-Men movies with X-Men First Class, and a planned X-Force movie. Now Fox's own superhero universe will be expanding with the other Marvel property which they own the rights to; The Fantastic Four. And Fox’s creative consultant Mark Millar has confirmed that, yes, Fox's X-Men universe is in the same universe as that with the Fantastic Four's. [hit the jump to continue]

Fantastic Four Reboot Actively Being Developed

The first two Fantastic Four movies did not really hit gold with audiences and critics and quickly got dissolved, now 20th Century Fox has decided to rework its plans for the Marvel foursome; they have decided to reboot FANTASTIC FOUR. Matthew Vaughn (director of Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, and the producer who shot Guy Ritchie into directorial fame) will be producing, while Josh Trank, who amazed the superhero movie world with his movie "Chronicle", will be directing the Fantastic Four reboot.

To top it off, writer Mark Millar has been hired by Fox to act as a “consultant” on all of their developing Marvel properties; that includes Fantastic Four and the X-Men characters (Daredevil, on the other hand, is now back in Marvel's hands). To those unfamiliar, Mark Millar is one of the most prominent writers in the comics world. He created Kick-Ass, Wanted, The Authority, and was the writer behind Marvel's Civil War. Kick-Ass 2 to start shooting this year

Kick-Ass Isn't Done Kicking Ass Yet

The sequel to the 2010 black comedy superhero movie Kick-Ass is now well into production and will start shooting September this year. Aaron Johnson confirmed that he would reprise his titular role in the sequel. Chloë Grace Moretz who plays Hit-Girl and Christopher Charles Mintz-Plasse who plays the Red Mist are expected to reprise their roles as well. On the other hand, director Matthew Vaughn (who still acts as producer for the sequel) will be having his hands full on the sequel to the successful X-Men: First Class but he has chosen Jeff Wadlow, who also co-wrote the script along with Vaughn, to direct Kick-Ass 2. The sequel will maintain that Hard R rating.

Universal now plans a KICK-ASS sequel

While comic creator Mark Millar has been touting the “greenlight” for Kick-Ass 2 for years now, it turns out that production may finally get started this year.  Deadline reports that Universal is in talks to make a sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s excellent 2010 pic Kick-Ass.  Vaughn is currently busy developing a sequel to X-Men: First Class, so Jeff Wadlow will be taking over directing duties this time around.  Wadlow, who wrote and directed 2005’s Cry_Wolf and directed the 2008 fighting-centered Never Back Down, wrote the script for Vaughn who I’m assuming will be producing.
