Ava DuVernay takes on A Wrinkle In Time and Intelligent Life

Following the success of her 2014 film "Selma", director Ava DuVernay certainly had a variety of options in front of her. A while ago, she was considered to direct Marvel's "Black Panther", but she ultimately passed on the project. Recently, she's been considered to take on the Dreamworks thriller "Intelligent Life" and "A Wrinkle In Time", an adaptation of the Madeleine D'Engle's classic children's book of the same name. Now Deadline is reporting that the director has officially been hired by Disney to take on the adaptation "A Wrinkle In Time", whose script was written by "Frozen" writer and co-director Jennifer Lee. This puts an end to the apparently six months of courtship by Disney, and is a great step toward diversity in Hollywood. [hit the jump to continue]
"A Wrinkle In Time" is a classic tale, and so long as the filmmakers have serious storytelling chops to bring it to life, the race of the director shouldn't matter. In addition to "A Wrinkle In Time", DuVernay has also been offered that previously-mentioned directing job for "Intelligent Life". This movie has Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "12 Years A Slave" actress Lupita Nyong'o attached. The film is about a "UN worker in a department designed to represent mankind if there was ever contact with aliens, who falls for a mystery woman who turns out to be one." We have yet to find out if she accepts this job as well, but either way you slice it, DuVernay certainly appears to be quite the hot director in Hollywood right now.
