Upcoming Philippine Releases: November to December 2015 & January 2016

December is just around the corner, and we have major cinema events coming up; there's the inevitable Metro Manila Film Festival which annually runs from Christmas week till the end of the year; and the bigger event which is the CineKasimanwa: Western Visayas Film Festival which will be held from December 8 to 14, 2015. But aside from these two big events, I'm sure many of you may want to find out what's slated for release from Late November till Early January. Well, we got updates for you to check out... November 18
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2
- we're getting the final chapter to The Hunger Games series two days ahead of US screens
By the Sea - a romantic drama set in the mid-70s, directed by Angelina Jolie which stars herself and real-life partner Brad Pitt
The Visit - M. Night Shyamalan's redeeming return to form, which marks his return to making good movies

November 25
The Good Dinosaur - Pixar's venture into pre-historic family-friendly adventure
Victor Frankenstein - which stars James McAvoy as the title character, and (get this) Daniel Radcliffe as Igor (ridiculous, right?)


December 2
Krampus - It's horror meets comedy in this nasty Christmas treat from the director of the underrated horror gem "Trick R' Treat"
Secret in Their Eyes - this mystery thriller stars a powerful trio of Nicole Kidman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Julia Roberts, and directed by Billy Ray who helmed "Breach" and "Shattered Glass" (which is the only good Hayden Christensen movie), he also wrote screenplays for "Captain Phillips" and "The Hunger Games" adaptation.
The Little Prince - The animated film adaptation of the very popular classic story will be arriving in Philippine screens much earlier than the US which will only get to see it March 2016.

December 3
In the Heart of the Sea - This Ron Howard film about the whale that inspired Moby Dick will arrive a week earlier than the US release.
Point Break (2015) - The remake of the 1991 action classic arrives 3 weeks earlier than the US release, evading the MMFF season.


December 8 to 14
THE CINEKASIMANWA: Western Visayas Film Festival
- Films from Western Visayas Filmmakers are celebrated in this annual grand festival. Venues are at the FDCP Cinematheque, UPV Cinematheque, and SM City Cinema.

December 9
Creed - This pseudo-spinoff/sequel of the Rocky series is about Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed, Rocky Balboa's former rival and friend.
The Program - this story about the expose of Lance Armstrong is from Stephen Frears, director of "The Queen", "Philomena" and "High Fidelity"

December 16
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens - To end our Hollywood film year with a bang, this little movie comes two days advance of the US release.

December 25
The Metro Manila Film Festival 2015

January 8
The Peanuts Movie - Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the gang are brought back to cinematic life for a new generation to adore. [original international release date: November 6, 2015]

January 13
Our Brand Is Crisis - with Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton is based on an American political consultant in Bolivia [original international release date: October 30, 2015]
Steve Jobs - not to be confused with the other movies tackling the same subject matter, this is the Danny Boyle film about the popular iconic figure. [original international release date: October 23, 2015]
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi - this Michael Bay (who works best if it's NOT about robots that he doesnt take seriously) flick arrives two days ahead of the US.

January 14
Sisters - with Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and John Cena (wait. what?). It's a comedy from the director of "Pitch Perfect" [original international release date: December 18, 2015]

January 20
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip - original international release date: December 18, 2015

January 27
The Revenant - from Alejandro González Iñárritu, director of "Birdman", "Babel", and "Amores Perros" and stars Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio
