The Russo Brothers will direct AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Just a couple of days ago, Marvel has announced their complete lineup of its Phase Three movies, and among them is the highly anticipated third Avengers movie; Avengers: Infinity War part 1 & 2. Now, Marvel has officially announced that the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo who directed "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will be directing "Avengers: Infinity War". [hit the jump to continue]

The Russo Brothers have just closed their deal to direct Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2. Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely—the scribes behind all three Captain America movies, Thor: The Dark World, and the driving force behind getting Agent Carter off the ground—are in talks to pen the screenplay for Infinity War.

Large Shoes to FillWe all loved that Geek God Joss Whedon was one of the pioneers that brought the immensely successful Marvel universe up with Avengers and the upcoming Avengers 2. But he has indeed expressed openly that he will soon have his rest from Marvel and focus on something original this time around. Anyway, Whedon's deal with Marvel to helm Avengers 2 and act as a creative consultant was set to expire in 2015, so after Age of Ultron, it's easy to assume that Whedon is already set for a graceful exit from Marvel. As for the Russo Brothers, they have tremendously large shoes to fill.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2 will be shot back-to-back as part of one long production in 2016 and 2017, in anticipation of a May 2018 release for Part 1 and May 2019 release for Part 2.

The Infinity War
The Infinity War, in the comics actually refers to the sequel of The Infinity Gauntlet saga. But in the movie version, it would make sense that they would adapt the storyline of The Infinity Gauntlet, wherein the cruel demigod Thanos obtains and mounts the six Infinity Gems (as seen in previous Marvel movies) on his left glove to form the titular Infinity Gauntlet. Each Gem grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the multiverse: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, and Power. Now all-powerful and desperate to win the affections of Death, Thanos decides to offer the entity a gift of love by completing a task she had given him, erasing half the sentient life in the universe , quite literally with a snap of his fingers. The surviving heroes on Earth band together—to battle Thanos, and restore order in the universe.

It's quite an epic, and yes, it would be incredibly awesome to see it on film. We'll have to wait till May 2018.
