"The Ring" Prequel "Rings" coming this November

When the Japanese Horror modern classic Ringu was unleashed internationally in the early 2000s (the original was actually first released 1998), it created a phenomenon that spread in the US as it was remade into the Hollywood "The Ring". Now, the terror is bound to return for a prequel with "Rings" [hit the jump to continue]

"Rings" which is set to be in 3-D, is going to be directed by F. Javier Gutierrez, and will star Italian actress Matilda Lutz. And it is set for official release November 13, 2015.

The story of this prequel takes place before the 2002 remake that starred Naomi Watts as a woman uncovering the mystery behind a haunted VHS tape. Rings will take "place before the creation of said tape and tell the origin of Samara's reign of terror." The film is based on the 1991 novel by Koji Suzuki, with a script by Aviva Goldsman, David Loucka and Jacon Aaron Estes.

The original Japanese franchise had a trilogy that consisted of a 1999 sequel (Ring 2), and the third movie "Ring 0: Birthday" was in 2000, which was itself a prequel, and very well made, and well-written one. The other japanese Ring movie was "Rasen", and in 2012 the franchise was revived by the Japanese with "Sadako 3D" and "Sadako 3D 2" in 2013. There was also a Korean remake entitled "The Ring Virus" in 1999. The Hollywood remakes came in 2002 with "The Ring" and "The Ring Two" in 2005. Personally, I prefer the original Japanese "Ringu" movies, which is far far better than the Hollywood remake.
