The GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Paul Feig is on the Works

After all the long journey of development hell, it is only recently that all the unofficial talks have finally become official; It is now confirmed that there's finally going to be a new Ghostbusters movie. But it's going to be something many of us may not like. Paul Feig, the director of such comedies as "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat" is developing a reboot for "Ghostbusters" which will feature an all-female-lead and has confirmed this via an image of the four actresses on Twitter. [hit the jump to continue]

The rumors that had been floating around about this project have all sadly turned out to be true. The lead cast will include Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. Feig is currently writing the script with Katie Dippold (The Heat). There's a rumor that Bill Murray will be cast as a supernatural debunker out to prove the Ghostbusters wrong, but we highly doubt that, considering Murray's notorious lack of interest towards the project (which was one of the reasons why development for a third movie dragged on through the decades).

Feig previously stated in an interview that assembling a female cast was a conceptual no-brainer for him and that he intends for this film to be scarier than the original:

“A lot of people accused it of being a gimmick.  I guess I can see the cynics’ view of it, but for me I just love working with funny women.  People said, ‘Why don’t you do a mix?’  I’m just more interested in the idea of lady Ghostbusters. It’s the way my brain works.  I want ours to be scarier than the original, to be quite honest.  Katie Dipold and I are so focused on wanting to do scary comedy.  We don’t want to hold back.”

Many sources have come out this week revealing some story details for this reboot. Check them out, and decide if theyre any good...

Erin Gabler and Abby Bergman are the first two leads, and as the film begins, they are former colleagues. They co-wrote a book about the paranormal together, then went in different directions. Erin works for Columbia, and she’s getting close to tenure, while Abby is more involved in the pursuit of ghosts, with a new partner named Jillian. In a world where there are thirty different “Ghost Hunters” style TV shows out there, the set-up makes sense, and it sets up a tension between serious academic motives and mainstream pop parapsychology.

No release dates have been set yet for this project.
