Universal Sets Its Sights on Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles

Anne Rice's vampire universe may be making a comeback to the silver screen, as Universal has acquired the rights to Anne Rice’s incredibly popular anthology of novels, The Vampire Chronicles. Imagine’s Brian Grazer will produce alongside Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The deal is for every single book in the series, including the upcoming Prince Lestat and even the ones that have already been made into a movie, such as Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned. [hit the jump to continue]

Speculations may suggest that that this new approach will not be following a cinematic continuity or link with the previous movies.

The deal ensures that Universal and Imagine will have an entire body of existing and future novels in Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles” series, including the adapted screenplay for “Tale of the Body Thief,” written by Rice’s son, author Christopher Rice. Other novels in the series include “Interview with the Vampire” and the upcoming “Prince Lestat.”

Having Kurtzman and Orci as head honchos for this project would not bode well to the fans of the books. The duo has already got their dirty fingers across several genre properties. Their track record speaks for itself: the Transformers movies, the recent Spider-man movies, JJ Abram's second Star Trek movie, to name a prominent few. What do you guys think? Hit the comments!
