N.W.A.Movie "Straight Outta Compton" Currently in Production

Something rap and hip-hop fans should look forward to is the upcoming biopic entitled "Straight Outta Compton" which follows the rise and fall of the gangsta rap group N.W.A., whose members include Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella. The film has began filming just this August 2014, and is set for theatrical release on August 14, 2015. [hit the jump to continue]

F. Gary Gray, who directed such films as Friday, Set It Off, The Negotiator, is set to direct for Universal with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre as well as Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright on board to produce.

Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson, Jr., will play a younger version of his father in the movie. O'Shea, Jr. will join Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins who will portray group members Eazy-E and Dr. Dre, respectfully, in the film. Paul Giamatti will play N.W.A's manager Jerry Heller. In addition, Aldis Hodge would portray MC Ren and Neil Brown, Jr. would play DJ Yella.

Here's the synopsis of the film:
In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A, Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
