Peyton Reed is the new director of Ant-Man

After the grueling drama of finding a replacement for Edgar Wright, the search is over for Ant-Man’s replacement director as Marvel confirms Peyton Reed as the new helmer. Adam McKay, who originally sought to replace Wright but turned down the offer, will instead board the picture in a screenwriting capacity and will make contributions to the script. Insiders say that he must have shared a few notes with the studio to earn that mention. In addition, Marvel has also released the official synopsis for Ant-Man [hit the jump to continue]

Here's the official synopsis:
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Peyton Reed does not seem like an easily impressive choice to direct Ant-Man, when you look at his previous directorial works, it includes "Bring It On", "Down With Love", "The Break-Up", and "Yes Man". And yes, we also wonder if he was picked because he's a "yes man". Let's just hope he can prove to be a great director for the project.

As for the synopsis, Scott Lang (Rudd) is a con-man instead of a thief. We could not help but wonder if Wright insisted for a storyline closer to the comics where we see Scott Lang as a thief who originally just stole the suit from Hank Pym (Douglas) in order to save the life of his daughter? Well, from the looks of it; it would be something that we wont be seeing anymore.

ANT-MAN stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, Patrick Wilson, Evangeline Lilly, and Corey Stoll, and is slated for release: July 17, 2015.
