"Thy Womb" to be shown this week

As far as international awards go, and international reputation, Filipino filmmaker Brillante Mendoza stands as the current reigning master auteur. Among many other awards and achievements, he won the award for Best Director for his film “Kinatay” at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival. One of his multi-awarded films "Thy Womb" is set to be screened this coming week (only from May 13, 2014 to May 18, 2014), at the FDCP Cinematheque, B & C Building, Solis Street, Iloilo City. This Brillante Mendoza film stars Nora Aunor, Bembol Roco, Mercedes Cabral, and Lovi Poe, and is written by Henry Burgos and directed by Brillante Mendoza. Thy Womb is a story of unconditional love about a Bajau midwife coping with both the cultural burden and gendered irony of her own infertility amid the deprivations of her gypsy community in Tawi-Tawi. A saga of island life stuck between the devil of passion and the deep blue sea of tradition.

This film has been cited as the single most important achievement in Philippine cinema for 2012 as it gets listed in the BRITANNICA BOOK OF THE YEAR 2013 (A Review of 2012) by Encyclopædia Britannica.

Screening skeds for "Thy Womb" are as follows: May 13 to May 16 (Tuesday to Friday), screenings are at 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM, and May 17 to May 18 (Saturday & Sunday) screenings are at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Admission fee is only 100 pesos.
