GMA's new film entitled "Overtime" pairs Richard Gutierrez and Lauren Young

In a press release, GMA announced its new movie entitled "Overtime" which is set for a July 2, 2014 release date. This suspense movie that promises to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, is directed by Wincy Aquino-Ong (writer and director of the indie horror "San Lazaro") and Earl Ignacio (writer of "Mr. Suave" and assistant director of "Ang Nawawala" and "Happyland") who also wrote it. It stars Richard Gutierrez in the lead with Lauren Young as the unlikely leading lady.

Richard plays Dom, a hacker who discovers that the pharmaceutical firm he’s working for has an underground clinic that conducts drug tests on children. Dom tries to blow the whistle against his employer, but is forced to hide after surviving a murder attempt orchestrated by his former boss, which is played by Roi Vinzon.

Playing his leading lady is Lauren Young. In the movie, she is Jody Amistoso whom he meets online. She may seem like a perfect date but behind the sweet talks and flirtations, a living nightmare awaits. Jody one day wakes up with a bomb strapped to her body, and to make things worse, Dom threatens to kill her brother if she refuses to cooperate and help him with his plan.

Dom tries to make sure that his well-laid plan is implemented while Jody must think of a plan to outsmart Dom – both race against time and each other to gain the upper hand in this tricky cloak-and-dagger game of vengeance.Check out the trailer...

OUR OPINIONS
The film's directors Wincy Aquino-Ong and Earl Ignacio show the project some promise. And GMA Films has been known to have some very fancy production values. But GMA's weakness usually lies with its poor pool of young actors. And Richard Gutierrez is probably the king of wooden acting. But giving it a benefit of doubt (albeit not a very confident one) maybe its directors can provide some saving grace. Not unless its producers do what mainstream cinema producers best: control their filmmakers to make commercial corny garbage.

Watching the trailer, I'm glad that the main character in focus here is Lauren Young's character. But, not to be biased, the trailer did crumble when Richard appears. Moving on to what the story seems to be about, it looks like a nice thriller. And with Young appearing to be the central character, this looks like it has some degree of hope. The bad thing about this movie is that the synopsis seems pretty much mess up what the story (as set up in the trailer) seems to establish, and seems to provide a very predictable twist. Anyway, it all remains to be seen... We'll get the answers on July 2...
