Warner Brothers has finally revealed who will play Lex Luthor in the upcoming untitled Batman vs Superman movie. The role goes to Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg. Oscar winner Jeremy Irons has also been added to the cast to play Bruce Wayne's trusted butler and companion Alfred Pennyworth. In addition, the release date for the movie has also been moved from July 2015 to May 2016.

Director Zack Snyder has this to say about Eisenberg's casting:
“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”
As for Jeremy Irons' casting he adds:
“As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”
Affleck’s Oscar-winning Argo scribe Chris Terrio is currently rewriting the screenplay for the untitled superhero pic based on an original draft from David S. Goyer, and with the casting of Eisenberg and Irons in addition to Affleck, Cavill, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, it would appear that the bulk of the main roles in the highly anticipated DC movie have been filled.
My opinions; well, I have the confidence that Jeremy Irons is the kind of actor that can easily handle a role, any role, even that of Alfred's. It's just that I have been seeing a lot of Iron's movies where he plays insidious characters, it would be refreshing to see him be a symbol of surrogate fatherly warmth.
As for Jesse Eisenberg, I think he's a brilliant choice for Luthor. Eisenberg is the kind of actor that looks like he could easily evoke that sense of treacherous genius, and sense of power, at the same time the charisma of one who would like to appear benevolent to the public. The best portrayals of Lex Luthor in other mediums have always been that of a charismatic corporate icon, a sort of a Steve Jobs-like character, but one who secretly hides a diabolical side. I think Jesse Eisenberg is perfect for the role.
Many other fans, on the other hand, were hoping for Bryan Cranston for the role. Heisenberg didn't get the role; Eisenberg did.
