In the latest update from the troubled Fast & Furious 7- which was left reeling in the wake of Paul Walker’s death on November 30th- we’ve received further confirmation that the folks behind it
Despite its recent crisis as a result of the death of Paul Walker, it looks like the 7th FAST and FURIOUS movie will proceed with as much Walker footage as possible. The plan, as reported by THR, is to simply tweak the script so that the late actor’s character, Brian O’Conner, can appear throughout the story but be “retired” at some point before it concludes. [hit the jump to continue]
First off, it should be cleared that “retire” isn’t a nice way of saying “killed off.” THR’s sources claim that option of killing off the character is off the table. Insiders say that half of the film had already been shot. And after weeks of watching and analyzing the material, director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Universal exec Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, found a way to rework things in a fitting way. To facilitate these changes, the script will require a few extra scenes to be written and shot.
They’ve bought themselves plenty of time, though, with the lengthy shift in the film’s release that was announced a few weeks ago. Fast & Furious 7 was originally set to come out July of this year, but has been moved to April of 2015. The hope of those behind-the-scenes with these changes is to handle Walker’s passing respectfully while also insuring that the series can go on.
