After passing on the sequel to X-Men: First Class and being in the running for Star Wars: Episode VII, Matthew Vaughn is set to helm an adaptation of Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel series The Secret Service, which the director began developing back in 2011. The story is about a veteran secret agent who takes his ruffian nephew from the streets of London and into a British spy school that molds its students into suave 007-types. Colin Firth is onboard to play the uncle, and newcomers Taron Egerton for the younger lead, and Sophie Cookson has landed the female lead. Michael Caine will play the head of the spy organization, and Samuel L. Jackson is set to play the villain. Vaughn has reportedly completed the script with writing partner Jane Goldman. As we saw with Kick-Ass, Vaughn and Goldman have had success in turning Millar’s style into a hit. [hit the jump to continue]
Production is currently underway in London on director Matthew Vaughn’s Mark Millar adaptation The Secret Service, but it appears that he wanted to avoid yet another down-to-the-wire post-production process, as the film, which was originally set to hit theaters on November 14, 2014 has now been pushed back three months to March 6, 2015, taking over the date that was previously held by The Fantastic Four. The pic, which stars Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson, will now open a week before Disney’s live-action Cinderella.
