Ping Lacson receives 7 Million Peso Royalty for a Movie about his time as a fugitive

Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson was paid 7 Million Pesos as royalty and rights to a movie about his life as a fugitive three years ago. It would be remembered that in 2010, a warrant of arrest was issued against him  for the double murder of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito. He disappeared and became a fugitive that time, and only resurfaced 2011 after the Court of Appeals voided the warrant. Lacson is mum about who, or what production company paid for the royalty. [hit the jump for the full article]

According to the Philippine Inquirer, Lacson’s net worth increased, from P22.6 million in 2011, to P28.8 million in 2012 as based on the statement of assets, liabilities and  net worth  (SALN) he filed  before  the  Office of the Senate Secretary. The surge, Lacson said, was “mainly due to the  P7 million payment for my film rights in  2012.” the Inquirer reports.

“I haven’t seen the final script yet but the storyline focuses on my life while in hiding”

I now seriously wonder if the plans for this film project will push through what with the latest news that former police superintendent Cezar Mancao, who testified that Sen. Panfilo Lacson and former President Joseph Estrada were involved in the murder of publicist Bubby Dacer, escaped from the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) early this morning. With a manhunt on for Mancao, I can only easily guess that the producers would be awaiting for this to be a more exciting point-of-view to their story.

It is remembered that there were two other Pinoy movies wherein Ping Lacson was immortalized into film. One was the 1993 movie "Task Force Habagat" wherein he was portrayed by Edu Manzano. The other was a 2000 biopic entitled "Ping Lacson: Supercop" wherein he was portrayed by the late Rudy Fernandez.Cezar Mancao was also immortalized in a 1994 biopic entitled "Mancao" which starred Philip Salvador as the title character. I wonder if this upcoming movie will cast Edu Manzano and Philip Salvador back to the roles they used to play.
