The Crow Returns, with Tom Hiddleston?

Is Loki the Next Thor? by R. Salao

The Crow is a franchise that has repeatedly been attempted to revive, but often never does fly and soar as planned. But in recent Crow-related activities, Tom Hiddleston (Loki, from The Avengers movie and Thor) is in formal talks to become the next Crow protagonist. Producers Ed Pressman, Kevin Misher and Ryan Kavanaugh have met with Hiddleston for a makeup test, and in the next few days, he is expected to do a formal test with filmmakers including director F. Javier Gutierrez (Spanish director whose film "Tres Dias"was lauded in a number of international sci-fi fim festivals). The script will be written by Cliff Dorfman (writer of "Warrior" and several episodes of "Entourage") [CLICK LINK BELOW TO READ THE REST]

The story of The Crow follows the tragic tale of a young man named Eric Draven who, along with his girlfriend/fiancée named Shelley were assaulted by a gang of thugs, and witnessed how Shelley was beaten and raped to death, before he himself was also killed. Eric is resurrected by a Crow and sought vengeance against those who tormented and killed Shelley, and the wicked forces that get in his way.

Based on the James O'Barr graphic novel / comicbook of the same title, the 1994 THE CROW movie was directed by Alex Proyas, and starred Brandon Lee in the role in which he died in (up till now, this event remains one of the eeriest mysteries in film history). The movie became a cult phenomenon, and inspired a legion of followers, from goths to just typical everyday people; The Crow and his look became very influential, not only in its time, but up till now. It was followed by a 1996 sequel which was forgettable, and all the rest of the other sequels were just plain awful (plus the 1998 TV series that nobody seemed to be interested in) . The Crow franchise drowned into obscurity, attempts for a revival never went anywhere. Directors like Stephen Norrington and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and actors like James McAvoy were once considered to take on The Crow. But attempts took the development back into development limbo.

Now, a decent actor like Tom Hiddleston, with some degree of fame he garnered from the Marvel movies (impressively playing the role of Loki, both on the Thor movie and in The Avengers movie), will surely grab everybody's attention. Expectations will most likely soar. Fans of The Crow will certainly rise back to life.
