Marvel & ABC developing S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series

No, it's Not "THE Shield"...
by Xyde

Earlier this month, it was reported that a TV series set in the Marvel Universe is being developed [CLICK HERE to read that report]. One that will be in the same continuity with the Avengers movie and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has recently been reported that this TV series is going to be one that will feature the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This series is currently being developed by the ABC Network will be co-written and will possibly be directed by Joss Whedon himself, the man who brought The Avengers to the silver screen.

The S.H.I.E.L.D TV show is looking to jump right into production.  Whedon will write the pilot along with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, a married couple who were both writers on Dollhouse, Spartacus and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. More than just a filmmaker, Whedon is one of those geek gods, mythmakers who has brought life into such iconic geek sagas as the Buffy universe (or as the fans simply call it: Buffyverse) and the Firefly universe (see the movie Serenity to find out more about it). Apart from being the one who directed The Avengers movie, Whedon's familiarity with running a TV series makes him more than perfect to run this project.

In case you have no idea what it's about, S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. In the Marvel universe, they're the secret military, espionage, and law-enforcement agency that deals with the more superhuman, supernatural, and the highly extraordinary threats to humankind. In the various Marvel movies, they can be seen trying to hire Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man) into their organization, and are fully conscious, and often getting into the events that transpire in those movies.

As for the details of the series, we will just have to wait for them. But at least we now have something new to geek about.
